I was sad to hear of her retirement, as connections had been raving about what great shape she was in only a few days before, so I was sure there were more fantastic races to come. She was a sporting hero in Australia, and as a half-Aussie myself, she was especially important to me (and to my Aussie mum).

I’m glad she retired with her unbeaten record intact, it will be a long time until we see a sprinter as classy and consistent as her. I hope she will have a good life as a broodmare, but the memories of fellow Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy’s death during foaling, and Rachel Alexandra’s post-foaling problems are fresh in my mind.

Please go away ArkleSupreme, or at least post something relevant. I have seen you bounce between BBC 606, Not 606 and Talking Horses and each time you spout the same unrelated rubbish.

Lovely to see Denman enjoying an active retirement. So we have Denman going team chasing and Neptune Collonges performing dressage, I’m very curious to see what Kauto does. Also Master Minded when he’s fully recovered. I think it’s so important that the public see these famous horses having careers after racing, and hopefully it will inspire some people to assist in retraining racehorses- I know where my Christmas money is going.

I don’t think Kauto will win (please prove me wrong old boy), but I will be screaming for him with every breath in my body.

2007 Gold Cup is up as well now:

I don’t know why RUK has never uploaded these renewals when they have the 2008, 2010 and 2011 versions up.

Slightly off topic but if anyone fancies a trip down memory lane, someone has finally uploaded the 2009 Gold Cup- the Channel 4 version as well! Hurry before RUK remove it.

Interesting idea. Personally, I’ve always thought that Kauto/Denman reminded me of Federer/Nadal.

Kauto= Federer, very classy and versatile, basically unbeatable when right, prone to slight lapses in concentration (or Kauto used to be), great longevity and thought to be one of the greatest of all time.

Denman= Nadal, mainly about power, but with a hefty dose of speed and skill as well, will simply bulldoze opponents into the ground, one of the few capable of beating Kauto/Federer, but less versatile (though Nadal has overcome this handicap). And sadly more prone to injury due to their style of running/play.

What a desperately sad race. My friend and I screamed when Rewilding went down and didn’t even watch the finish of the race. Such a tragedy. And a strange race. I think I read that Workforce was struck into, which lead to his drifting. But little else matters apart from Rewilding. RIP.

Kudos to John Gosden for a classy, sympathetic and informative response to Rewilding’s fall, William Buick as well.

Yes it does. Looking at the race’s history on Wiki there have been some very slow times. However, her win last year was nearly two seconds faster but I don’t know about the sectionals and I do think the ground was slower this year.

I think the most important thing to take out of her performance was the speed she showed between one and two furlongs out, as that’ll be most relevant in her future races. Also think Cirrus Des Aigles has a Group 1 in him, as he’s performed very well in both this race and the Prix Ganay against top class opposition.

Not the strongest race but most of the entries had form over longer distances and Goldikova did very well to hold on. It will have blown the cobwebs away for sure. Let’s hope she has a good a season as last year.

I think something might be amiss with Dick Turpin, that’s two bad runs in a row and he’s normally extremely consistent. I think the quick turn around did for him but something may come to light later on.

Agree though that he clearly won’t beat Canford Cliffs on this year’s form.

All hail Goldikova! Fabulous mare. Let’s hope she’s comes out of this well and comes to Ascot.

I thought they went too far blasting irrelevant music over the otherwise heart-warming cheers and applause of the winner’s enclosure

I find it so hilarious, I’ve dubbed it the Ridiculously Overdramatic Music and sometimes sing or drum along to it. Compare it to the lovely understated music they play at Cheltenham. Even the Take That song at Kauto’s 4th King George was more appropriate than this movie trailer rip off stuff.

He will do his sire Hurricane Run a power of good.

I believe So You Think is by High Chaparral, think Hurricane Run’s oldest crop are only 3.

He is a beautiful horse though, really awesome to watch.
