That’s why I was careful to say same weight and not same mark!
Off the same weight as last year you can certainly see him going close-he’s ran two pipe openers in group 1s so will find this a tad easier-I’m also tempted by those odds.
Mirsaale is another who will find life a bit easier since being beaten by the excellent El Bandit at Chepstow and this dual performer is interesting back on the flat. He does look on a tough mark on the face of it on 97, but judging by his recent hurdles wins he may have improved sufficiently to bE competitive-he was set some tough asks in the Ascot Stakes and Coral Marathon so in this company may fare better. 20/1 is a good eachway bet.
I’m in, good luck all!
Horror draw for HC and also Wicklow Brave, probably doubles their odds of winning now.
Therefore I’m going to jump ship to Almandin who although isn’t drawn much better in 17, it may give him a better chance than those +20 in getting position early on. Another thing is that he’s by Monsun who’s other progeny have a great record in this race – I also like the jockey booking of McEvoy who is bidding for a second success, some 16 years after his first!
Sorry didn’t realise there was already a thread for this by botchy, feel free to close and combine with that one….he also goes for HC so a good sign!
My old friend Heartbreak City is my hope for this, it’s a fiendishly difficult race to plunder but the way he bolted up in the Ebor suggests he has enough class to cope.
Splash of Ginge is a moody customer but he is too well handicapped to ignore. I do feel he is a National type in the near future, but if he puts it all in he could easily be a threat, and could relish this sort of trip.
Vieux Lion Rouge out but Un temps pour tout still in, weights are out on 9th Nov so may wait until then before having a bet…
Un Temps Pour Tout for me, 20/1 with Bet 365. His win at Cheltenham last time was very good, I think he ought to stay the trip too on good/soft. Been a while since Pipe won this (2008 with Madison du Berlais?) so probably overdue for a good trainer.
Glad to see you’re in the black again Joni, gambling is all about peaks and troughs, everything you touched turned to gold a few months back! I myself am going through a bad spell, apart a good ante post win on Heartbreak City in the Ebor I haven’t really had much else to cheer about. I did go to Ffos Las at the weekend and had a decent winner with Garde La Victoire, but the atrocious rain did temper enthusiasm a bit! I must admit I do prefer the jumps than the level, so the summer for me is really just ticking over waiting for the Autumn – that said I will have an interest in the Breeders Cup in a few weeks – do you have any early fancies for that? I do really like Tepin in the Mile but not sure about anything else yet.
If you do call a day with this thread then it’s been a throughly enjoyable series to follow – I do wish a posted on here a bit more but work commitments and other things do get in the way rather, I always like “comparing notes” with fellow lovers of the game. Best of luck…
Vaniteux and Garde La Victoire, the 1-2 coincidentally in the Greatwood last season, would take my interest at this early stage, but will review again once weights are confirmed. Vaniteux promised a lot of hurdles but didn’t really deliver over fences ultimately, he is only 7 so maybe after a good summer break he may begin to realise his outstanding potential – his Doncaster win was very good. If he gets the extra distance and can go in a bigger field he could be a danger.
i bet GLV at Ffos Las over the weekend and he looked in excellent nick in atrocious conditions. He was still going well in the JLT when coming down a few fences out – with that run in the Welsh Champion Hurdle under his belt, going back over fences he could also be a real threat.
Think if the horse was trained by the likes of Gosden/Charlton etc rather than Meade it would’ve been about 3-1…
One of my favourite jumps horses of recent times, his win in the Skybet a highlight. RIP, beautiful horse.
I agree, Chapman is much better presenting and provoking good if sometimes controversial discussion rather than being out in the “field”. That said I’m glad he’s on the team.
Admittedly my old friend Rivellino has never won on turf still, but he has run some mighty races in the top sprint handicaps the last few years. He’s on the same mark when 3rd in the Stewards Cup last year and at 33-1 he could be a decent ew bet if he handles the softer going.
Hope you got BOG!
I backed Zelzal too and thought the jockey gave the horse a bit too much to do considering it was only a mile in a 6 runner race, although those tactics had worked the time before. Vadamos rather stole it and the favourite should do better next time.
I find it a difficult time of year for finding decent winners as the ground seems very changeable and some horses are nearing the end of a long season. That said, it has paid dividends backing Crowley/SDS runners of late even if they are riding a lot of horses daily. Both have had trebles today at some decent prices. Are you tempted to join this bandwagon or are you sticking to your guns with your “normal” way of picking bets?
