Eblouissante will make her second start Saturday Dec 15th at Hollywood Park. It is an allowance race against winners and some are older horses so it should be a tougher test than beating maidens. Ebby is 6/5 on the morning line and will probably be bet down because of the Zenyatta connection so you might want to lay her but before you do take another look at the videos of her first race posted earlier in this topic.
Yes, Coolmore bought Vertigineux and she is now boarded at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky. Since being sold to Coolmore, V has produced two foals by Henry The Navigator. They tried to breed a full sibling to Zenyatta in 2011 but the mating with Street Cry didn’t take. In 2012 they tried again and Vertigineux is now in foal to Street Cry, expecting a full sibling to Zenyatta in 2013.
Eric Kronfeld, bred Zenyatta and sold Zenyatta to Jerry and Ann Moss at auction in Keeneland for $60,000. Of course, Eric no doubt did well when he sold Vertigineux privately to Coolmore. EK also kept Vertigineux’s filly Eblouissante to continue the bloodline that he had been breeding for several generations. That’s why Eblouissante was racing in EK’s silks. Ironically, one of the horses Ebby beat in her first race was owned by the Mosses and racing in Zenyatta’s colours.

Horse racing is about 90% horse but the 10% jockey factor is crucial. How many races are won by a length or less? A good jockey can occasionally "steal" a race with a perfect ride but it’s more likely that a bad jockey can get the best horse beat. All a great jockey can really do is keep a horse out of trouble, time the horses move and put the horse in position to win. After that it’s up to the horse.
G1 wins by female jockeys are still fairly rare, though there are more women riders now that are capable of competing at the highest level. Best female riders in America, IMO are Chantal Sutherland and Rosie Napravnik.

The way Frankel finishes his races it’s hard to believe he can’t get another furlong or two at least. Although there’s nothing wrong with being a brilliant miler or sprinter and 1 Mile may be Frankels best distance, I think Frankel deserves at least one chance to see if he can go longer.
Enter Frankel in a handicap race carrying 140 ( ten stone?) with Canford Cliffs at 112 and Goldikova at 110?
The way Frankel finishes his races it’s hard to believe he can’t get another furlong or two at least. If fact I think I’ll start a new topic about that. You can never have too many topics about Frankel.
Best dam ever in that they produced the most winners or most influential on modern bloodlines? Two of the most influential broodmares were Mumtaz Mahal who produced Mumtaz Begum, dam of Nasrullah and Nogara, dam of Nearco, sire of Nasrullah. This line led directly to Mr. Prospector.

Also, Netalma, dam of Northern Dancer, whose female family is descended from Mumtaz Mahal as Neartic, sire of Northern Dancer is descended from Nogara.
The Grand National is an extreme horse race. It is a severe test for jockeys and horses. Horses and Jockeys die in this race quite regularly and hopefully will in the future as well . Many climbers die trying to climb Mt. Everest. It is extreme mountain climbing. Should climbing Everest be banned and climbers be restricted to soft dirt hills no more than 500 feet high? If you don’t test the limits of horses with extreme racing what will become of the breed in the future? If Humans aren’t willing to test their limits and face extreme challenges what will become of the Human race? The Grand National is savage, brutal and barbaric and GLORIOUS. LONG LIVE THE GRAND NATIONAL and to change it to make it softer will be a lot more tragic than the occasional death of a horse or rider. It will be a death of the spirit of horses and humans.
Posted this in US Racing. Despite the weird green background, it’s a good site with Derby prep races and videos.
Zenyatta is in foal;

Sorry Fist, little hope of a return to the races this year.
Badactor – Congrats on the Setsuko score, massive show payoffs with the 1/2 favorite Twirling Candy finishing out of the money. Following are some trackside videos of horses connections sweating out the inquiry, wildly happy and unhappy people after the decision;

Another good video with a head on shot of the bumping (click VIDEO link in story). Looks like it all started when Twirling Candy came out and bumped Setsuko (2nd place finisher), then TC veered in and hit the flank of Game On Dude (winner). SA Hcp AKA Santa Anita Rodeo.
Twirling Candy may not be a 10f horse as he appeared to tire in the stretch, but he had a very rough trip and was bumped several times between horses. Stewards ruled that TC initiated the contact and made no change in the order of finish. If you can find a YouTube video with a head on shot it’s a pretty wild bumping contest. Right now Thoroughbred Times has a video up, including a head on view of the stretch run.
Twirling Candy best horse in America, only question is 10f distance. TC has two wins and a 4th at 9f. TC’s latest 9f win in the Strub Stakes at Santa Anita looked pretty easy and should be the perfect prep race for the SA Hcp, AKA the "Big Cap". If you can get better than even money it’s a good bet but more likely to be 3/5 at race time.
Urban Sea was a very good racehorse and Navajo Princess and Flaming Page pretty good but great horses come from all sorts of dams and two of the best from dams that never won anything;

Steve Haskin in BloodHorse.com has a good list of contenders. Dialed In was very impressive to me in the Holy Bull, nice stretch kick and looked like he would appreciate added distance.
Good one Fist. She’s in training all right, but not for the racetrack. I hope she has some nice foals. My favorite American horse right now is Twirling Candy. I posted about him in the new forum, ‘U.S. Racing’. He’s no Zenyatta, who could be?; but he’s a very nice horse and with Zenyatta, Lookin At Lucky and Blame all retiring to breed TC is IMO the best of the older horses. Kentucky Derby is still wide open. Uncle Mo 2yo BC winner is back in training, worked 4f in 49 and change but as the time indicates is still a ways from a race. So still some horses to follow in America but racing seems a bit lifeless without Zenyatta, dancing her way to the post and closing with a rush.
One of the factors in the choice of Bernardini for Zenyatta was the look of Zenyatta’s half-sister by Bernardini out of Vertigneaux (Zenyatta’s dam).
