The Churchill Downs stretch at 1234.5 feet, yes they still use that archaic English measurement, is about 200 feet longer than Santa Anita. Should suit Zenyatta perfectly. Jerry Moss was quoted after the race as saying that Zenyatta will be going in the BC Classic if she comes out of todays race sound.
Schooling in the paddock yesterday, looks like the big mare is ready to run.

Stable Notes
Posted 09.30.10 at 2:18Barn 55 South at Hollywood Park was so quiet Thursday morning that somebody might not have guessed that unbeaten superstar Zenyatta was preparing for her California finale in the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes Saturday.
Hot walker Carmen Zamora walked the 6-year-old mare around the stable after she galloped on the main track under exercise rider Steve Willard to the satisfaction of trainer John Shirreffs. Groom Mario Espinoza freshened her stall.
“She’s just getting better and better and as nonchalant as ever,” said veteran assistant and exercise rider Fred Wilson.
Asked if the quest for victory No. 19 had any special meaning, Shirreffs indicated he would prefer to let Zenyatta do the talking on the track.
“No, not really,” said Shirreffs. “It’s the same routine.”
Didn’t take to the turf and finished up the track – oh well, back to dirt.

Good Story about Team Zenyatta, 14 hands of love, 17 hands of power;
Another video link that shows the start of the Crosby several times. Notice the 5 horse rears up at the start then almost stumbles this causes the 4 horse to spook and move into Scenic Blast (#3 on the gate), that and the 2 horse coming out causes SB to be badly pinched at the start and have to fight his way through to get into contention which had to take something out of SB.
Much improved race from Scenic Blast in the G1 Crosby at Del Mar, 2nd time out in America, Pinched off at the break and bumped by horses on both sides, SB muscled his way through, moved into a stalking position, saved ground on the turn, moved off the rail entering the stretch and couldn’t get to the winner but finished 2nd about 3 lengths in front of the third horse. OK for me as I had him across the board and the 3/5 favorite ran out of the money. BTW, this was on the main track NOT on the turf. Scenic Blast looks to be coming to hand for Shirreffs.
