Can’t remember what year it was but pretty sure the National your US friends would appreciate was the one where the winner was ridden by Elizabeth Taylor.

Only looked about 13 at the time , different criteria for jockeys in those days – stable lad bore an uncanny resemblance to Mickey Rooney so there’s another link.

Nice to see you back I de B.

Am still looking for your "missing" ones – will get there eventually.

Still trying to find something else to fill my time. Backing winners sure isn’t a successful alternative at the minute.

    Cheers

Hilly Way blue white slvs pink cap – courtesy of the 1979 Daily Express Grand National pullout ; fortunately they printed the colours for all televised races that day. Presume they were the same in ’78.

saved the pullouts since childhood – told the wife they’d come in handy one day.

God Bless Santa Claus and the fact that apparently I’m "impossible to buy for" at Christmas.

I have now got to work my way steadily through :-

    12yo Glenfiddich

    14yo Clynelish

    10yo Talisker and a

    12yo Cragganmore

When I wake up the other side of Royal Ascot I’ll report which is my "current" favourite.

    Cheers

from what little I’ve learnt about him I imagine if they’d started to fade he’d have put the squeeze on the supplier to get a new set – don’t think he was a decent chap , probably why he appeared over this side of the Atlantic for a while until we gave him the elbow as well.

Hi Gerald , following your lead I’ve been googling again – can’t touch you for it in the festive season apparently !!

if you google the long-winded …..

richard croker blue racing colours orby you get a mention of blue gold tassel ??

then googled richard croker gold tassel and got

    Yale Blue Gold tassel

Yale Blue is a dark blue associated with the University.

Gerald , have seen one of your other topics , Colours , so this may make sense to you ..

Hexadecimal 0F4D92. from Wikipedia so must be right !

quite what Yale Blue gold tassel look like though not sure – braid on the body or just a tassel on the cap ?

Millionaires – like that idea a lot.

Hello Gerald & Crepello , nice to see you back here and thanks for the input again.

re Caughoo , when "googling" Caughoo colours I too found mention of royal blue green & white being the colours of the owner. Agree with Gerald that the Pathe footage in the unsaddling enclosure makes it look like blue & green vertically halved white slvs & cap

I de B – thanks very much for you latest searches.

As advised a while ago , am going to write to current Viscount Rothermere , Baron Hindlip & will try current Lord Manton. Will either succeed or maybe end up in the Tower. Am checking Debrett’s for correct etiquette.

further to my last posting – on e-bay there is one of the cards for Caughoo if you want to splash out £3.89 + £0.78 p&p.

Buy Now price so no bidding war to get into.

Colours look like pale blue white slvs & cap but it’s a bit hazy.

Still searching for those missing National winners.

did discover on e-bay cigarette cards of national winners in the 1950’s – apparently on the back was the "trade name" Seagram as well as Imperial Publishing. Items for sale numbered 8 or 9 I think but as you can guess , the missing ones were Mr What and Quare Times – must be out there somewhere though.

this is what I’m left looking for :-

Oaks 1897 Limasol 2nd Baron Hindlip
    2000 1898 Disraeli Wallace Johnstone
Oaks 1898 Airs and Graces W. T. Jones
    Derby 1907 Orby Richard Croker
    Oaks 1909 Perola William Cooper
Oaks 1921 Love inIdleness Joseph Watson
1000 1929 Taj Mah Simon Guthmann
    1000 1940 Godiva 2nd Viscount Rothermere
Oaks 1947 Imprudence Mrs Pierre Corbiere
2000 1952 Thunderhead II Eugène Constant
    2000 1966 Kashmir II P. Butler

thanks again to all who’ve taken the time to help.

    thanks for that info.

on the British Pathe news site coverage of Quare Times & Mr What’s national ( B&W footage of course)

Quare Times – hopefully you’ll find that the body is horizontally split in 3 , not halved as I said before , must have been careless there , in red white and blue but don’t know which order other than white’s in the middle. slvs and cap are solid colours but red, blue , don’t know – YET !

Mr What – dark body light hoops on slvs light cap with the dark hoop black&white ?

hasn’t helped I know but at least you can go and watch the race .

    regards
