Black Sam Bellamy
Couldn’t agree more that it would be torture to try and maintain such a low weight, particularly when you think how much strength they have to have as well. Those who are slightly on the taller side must have amazing self discipline. It’s not something that I’d ever be able to put myself through, not that I’m under any delusions that I’d be good enough anyway!
Flagship Uberalles
Agreed, Jamie Spencer’s definitely going to make a big impact in the next few years. He got slated fro his ride on HW but that’s life and I’m sure all the top jockeys have made blunders along the way. You just have to live and learn.
And of course, Lester has to be one of the greatest of all time. Pretty phenomenal record he’s got.
Not sure if this will effect racing but I’ve heard that there may be a ban on bute in horses. Something to do with EC regulations on not knowing the effects/ how long it remains in the food chain. I think this is to do with horses being used for human consumption.
Lasix has a completely different use in people. It’s actually a diuretic used to clear the body of swelling, often seen around the joints – commonly seen in the elderly. A very useless fact for you all. Being a pharmacy student I suppose I should know why it has a different action in people and horses but am afraid I don’t. Any suggestions?
I’m sitting on the fence a bit here but I find that I tend to love the flat in the summer and jumps in the winter. The flat has produced some of the legendary horses such as Nijinsky etc and I really love the build up to the Derby and seing how the victor shapes in the clash of the generations. Having said that, there’s something about NH that the flat hasn’t got. The bravery of horse and jockey over jumps and having been to both Longchamp for the Arc and Aintree for the National last year I have to say that the National would win every time. I’m working at Aintree this year and having followed the great race since 1989 I suppose that ultimately NH just gets the nod.
