Thanks all, missed the race as out with family but thought extra trip would help.

I agree it wasn’t great. I would usually put up a thread for a race like this if VtC hadn’t but couldn’t find a bet. I was kind of interested in Letos and Kovanis at big ew prices but didn’t bet them, thankfully as they just tiddled around the back for a mark (or else are no good).
It was the kind of race that set up OK….and then nothing happened, and the winner got an uncontested lead that only Sortudo was willing or able to try to do anything about at the end. The omitted hurdles didn’t help the spectacle either. For that kind of early G1 novice it’s more fun if there are a handful of good horses in contention and heating it up 2 out, or failing that one superstar who cruises into contention, sweeps past everything and wins by miles on the bridle announcing its claims as the next big thing, but that race was neither.
Winner deserved it, pleased for trainer/jockey, wonder if JP will buy it, next please.

I wonder what happened to Fascile Mode. His jumping had improved and he completed his last few starts, running his best race over fences at Cheltenham of all places.

As Ruby said, Leopardstown had a heavy toll; I wonder if they will water harder at the DRF

Well, we could just give it to JP McManus or The Lads every year but that would be dull.
Andrew Gemmell won it for being blind, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha won it for being tragically deceased, it’s a human emotion thing so why not.

“I don’t agree with Ian Gosden being owner of the year. For what reason? ”
Because he insisted on going for the champion hurdle and reaped the benefit of having a go when they could have gone for the mares.

“Same applies to his 152-rated horse”
It’s not the Cartier racehorse of the year awards. A plucky, lucky underdog can win the poll. The other 2 nominees were Gaelic Warrior and Galopin des Champs. In the 2025 calendar year all 3 horses won 2 grade ones. Galopin came 2nd in 2 grade 1s- so did the mare. Gaelic Warrior won a G2- so did the mare. So she wins on countback and cash I think, taking exchange rate into account.

I’ve already backed Kitzbuhel for this and have added his beginners runner up Kaid d’Authie at 50s ew. He’s a big lanky horse and probably still lacking a bit of power behind the saddle at this age but I like him, I am very interested to see how far he can develop as I think there’s plenty of potential there. That beginners was a good race.
Think he’ll be better left handed but Fairyhouse is a nice place to go for his second try over fences; the past two editions were won by Champ Kiely and Nick Rockett.
