“IET is up thank god – assuming it was a tired fall and he was winded”

Oh brilliant. It did look a tired winded fall but you never know

Is IET up? I only have my phone to watch on.

I hope James Bowen gets some credit for the win, you can be sure if Cobden was in the saddle he would be praised, in fact somebody on the betfair forum who didn’t know about the jockey substitution wrote this post thinking it was Cobden:
“Shades of Barry G there in the JP silks. Things not looking good but never gives in , tactically astute and galvanises the horse to victory!”

Jonbon didn’t jump like a 2 miler, he put in short ones everywhere and put down the one time he was asked a fair question- Bowen had the wit to accept this and not ask for anything more. Don’t think the safety-first attitude is the jockey’s fault, it may be how Jonbon is now. Admirable horse, even if he hasn’t got the physical or mental ability to do the spectacular 2 mile chaser thing any more, he tries so hard.

“It wasn’t embarrassing when Sea Pigeon won Flat races, or when the likes of Morley Street or Tiger Roll had a try”.

The word “try” shouldn’t be in the same sentence as “Tiger Roll” and “Flat”. He was so fat at Navan that time it was a surprise they could wedge him into the stalls that he waddled out of and then dandered around the back.

Gingell seems to be a good rider, I think he would be up to it.

“Perhaps Golden Ace should go for the hat trick”

She’s by Golden Horn, who has 125 AW winners, his progeny having a slightly better record on tapeta than turf; and out of a Dubawi mare who herself won on the AW, and whose next best offspring after Golden Ace is a winner on the AW. I’d be backing her against CH.

If it’s open to winners of one, Poniros would be eligible. He won’t , but it would be funny if he did ;-)

Sure if we’re all going in fancy dress for the craic I’ll get a brown fedora and a nice pastel V neck jumper and go as the trainer.

“Skelton should absolutely banter it and enter The New Lion in this completely=made-up-race-for-Henderson’s-benefit.”

That would be hilarious. Do it, Dan!

“I’m thinking of going to Southwell to watch , fancy dress …. as a white hurdle ..”
    Even better.

” Henderson said: “It’s the perfect race for him and the timing couldn’t be better. It’s our intention to go and the horse, a jockey, the owner and trainer will attend. It’ll be great and he’s used to having crowds for his races, so it’ll be good for him.”

Oh wow the horse is actually going to join in the race live, not just via video link from his stable??? With a real live jockey on (although TBH that’s a bit of a disappointment, I had hoped for a hologram, one of those camel racing robot jockeys, or Kermit from the Muppets strapped to his back). Still, sounds like Hendo and Buckers will be gracing racegoers with their august presence, what a treat.

I wonder if the attendance will beat Auguste Rodin’s trip to the course which garnered 1500 gawkers. IIRC, Southwell even laid on a wee bell at the start, just like in America, to prep him perfectly for his triumphant storm to victory in the Breeders Cup.

“He’ll sure be under a lot of pressure in the first few months though, especially in Ireland lol.”

Three months to practise before the Galway festival. Where you can break a leg in the mêlée without even falling off, and still fight tooth and nail to win:
