I heard this poor mare was in foal too – can anyone verify this?
Yes, Tonge, Michael80, Walk Waterford should have been pulled up, was lumping 12st 2lb rated 112 in a 0-110 handicap. Makes no sense.Skylark Lady (11st 7lb) at Newton Abbot (21 Aug) another who should have PU but jockeys keep going with tired horses. Can only give racing a bad name.
Thanks Blackgold
RIP Peckhamecho
RIP Motown Girl
Spot on Bonanzaboy re three too young for demands of hurdle racing. Don’t think you’re in minority either.
Even in the dog world Border Collies (and Lurchers) are not allowed to do Agility Training until they’re mature. So same should apply to jumpers in NH game. Store Horses are allowed to mature before racing and maybe get fewer injuries?I agree with you Triptych. Having retired from racing Silviniaco Conti could have done with a year or two off, to wind down and relax in a field environment with other horses and become a ‘horse’ for the first time in his life. He’d given enough and deserved a break and some freedom. The idea that ex-race horses should go straight into another horse sport is flawed with problems. e.g. Kauto Star from hard racing at speed and jumping to a very constraining programme of dressage is an odd mix – that doesn’t suit hot-bloods immediately after a racing career. Poor Conti deserved better consideration. RIP mate you were a Champion and for a short period in your short life, the very best NH horse in the world.
First of two – no excuses can be given. Shithole Wetherby always has had problems.
**** me what a terrible fall – poor lad. No horse should have to suffer this. Has to be seen to be believed. RIP mate you deserved better.
Bloody terrible fall. Like I said before the new padded hurdles are shite; they don’t go down but flap about when hit and bring horses down always on their neck. BHA and racecourse inspectors not an f…. clue.
Another decent horse gone to the dogs. Third race this month. Just won 5 grand a couple of days back and greedy b…… wanted more out of the animal. Poor lad.
Has anyone else noticed that the new so called ‘cushioned hurdle’ at Kelso and other courses that have them, don’t go down easily like trad hurdles when hit. They bring horses down very quickly on their necks resulting in instant death. Take a look at today’s race if in doubt – awful sight and horses shouldn’t have to face these crap obstacles. RIP mate, you deserved better.
Thanks BlackGold
Poor lad Yorkee Mo Sabee’s off-fore pastern broke, the hoof was hanging off and flopping about. The young jockey lad was slow dismounting. The horse was running on the stump of his cannon bone. Likely a bad step on that awful surface that doesn’t appear to be holding up to much racing. The bends are too sharp and the fields bunch. Running 6 furlongs on this course mostly on the turn all tight together is poor welfare and two dead horses from this race is a pointer to this. BHA ‘horse comes first’ promo – load of shite.
He appeared to slip and loose his footing on the turn in, resulting in the fatal injury, poor lad. That surface looks bad, bad, bad.
Poor lad got a leg caught up in the reins running loose, subsequently fell and broke his neck. Awful camerawork / production editor trying to avoid the reality of what happened.
Had he not been B/D he’d be in his stable tonight getting his feed. -
