April 10, 2018 at 05:36 #1349599Rotten way to start the National week.
R.I.P Silviniaco Conti.
April 10, 2018 at 08:53 #1349607To my knowledge it hasn’t been disclosed what injury happened to him at the weekend … but I did read that the vets thought he would be OK but he deteriorated on Monday … so sad. Of course on FB there’s quite alot of flack on the lines of should have been retired to the field etc … my view is he was only 12, an athletic, fit and healthy horse still very well cared for and very much loved … and from first hand from people who have seen him and photos of him team chasing he was just loving his galloping and jumping. Of course we would all have liked him to live much longer but they can’t be wrapped in cotton wool and things do happen in the field, stable, roads … colic … no-one can predict when/where/how … RIP Conti you will not be forgotten …
April 10, 2018 at 22:41 #1349708I was so happy when he retired and thought he would go on to a ripe old age, used to worry so much for his safety when he was jumping and now this happens.
RIP dear Silviniaco Conti you were the most beautiful horse
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 11, 2018 at 12:02 #1349760I agree with you Triptych. Having retired from racing Silviniaco Conti could have done with a year or two off, to wind down and relax in a field environment with other horses and become a ‘horse’ for the first time in his life. He’d given enough and deserved a break and some freedom. The idea that ex-race horses should go straight into another horse sport is flawed with problems. e.g. Kauto Star from hard racing at speed and jumping to a very constraining programme of dressage is an odd mix – that doesn’t suit hot-bloods immediately after a racing career. Poor Conti deserved better consideration. RIP mate you were a Champion and for a short period in your short life, the very best NH horse in the world.
April 11, 2018 at 22:34 #1349840Well said Downpayment.
April 11, 2018 at 23:37 #1349851If find it rather irritating that at least one poster on this thread only ever seems to post on here to point fingers and spout rubbish after a horse dies.
April 12, 2018 at 15:12 #1349943+1 Memorials threads are becoming un-readable. In my opinion they should simply be about the horse and its demise, the main racing forum could be used for any further discussion re the merits of the retraining of racehorses.
