Two dead at Hexham Saturday (Derby Day). Whilst all eyes on Derby none on Hexham as these nearly slipped through the net. Old timer Rare Legend fell and destroyed whilst young 3 yo filly Blue Petal killed on her first hurdle race (too young) half hour later. These Hexham deaths come on the back of 3 dead in a day in April. Something up there. RIP Rare Legend RIP Blue Petal
June 3, 2018 at 18:23 #1356061Although Hexham is a hard course in that it’s up and down and a steep uphill near the finish, it’s always been a pretty safe course with relatively few casualties, so not sure what’s gone wrong lately. To me, three is too young to go hurdling although I think I’m in the minority on that.

Even in the dog world Border Collies (and Lurchers) are not allowed to do Agility Training until they’re mature. So same should apply to jumpers in NH game. Store Horses are allowed to mature before racing and maybe get fewer injuries? - AuthorPosts
