I thought Al Ferof ran an absolutely superb race for a novice against older, top class horses at Ascot the other week and Corals offer afterwards of 8/1 for the Arkle was too good to miss!
He is my nap of the meeting in a very eye catching race but great value against Sprinter Sacre, who surely needs far more experience to justify his price??
Have fancied Alan Kings Montbazon for some time for this race and at 20/1 with Laddies he looks worth a decent EW punt. He is a high class horse that loves decent ground. The form of his debut over hurdles at Newbury is very solid on ground that did not suit but he travelled very well there and was only run out of it close home by Colour Squadron. Hacked around at Plumpton the other day for more hurdling experience and come the day he will be spot on.
Laddies the last bookie offering 20s, wont last much longer.
Didnt think Finians Rainbow did too much wrong at Ascot the other week and at 13/2 looks a solid win and place bet to me. Cheltenham will suit him much better than Ascot, with the hill playing to his strenghts, and he will do for me.
Derbyshire trainer John Mackie’s website was designed by one of the owners in our syndicate as part of his University project at Newcastle :

40/1 with Ladbrokes now! Have had a small ew [at 33/1]. Went to John Mackies yard many years ago when he had Wigtown Bay. Not far from the famous Salt Box Cafe if I remember right. Would be nice for a local horse to win a big one. Good luck!
Wigtown Bay is still enjoying retirement up in Scotland somewhere – I remember him being a Derby Evening Telegraph Own a Racehorse competition horse in the Eighties. Yes the Salt Box Cafe is still there – great breakfasts still! Fingers crossed for the yard tomorrow – they deserve a big winner.
I am hoping Gidam Gidam will run a very big race tomorrow for John Mackie. The horse has always been thought of as a Scottish National type and has not had a hard season so should be fresh and well for this. Good ground is fine for him and as long as he handles the hustle and bussle OK early on he should run very well – plenty going for him at 33/1 IMO
