Why do you persist in using Kerrin McEvoy as your No.1 rider in Australia–he is riding winners, but he is slaughtering a lot more
In our opinion, Kerrin McEvoy is a top class jockey who has done a great job for us over the last few years and we will continue to use him when possible. He is riding as well as anyone and gave Crime Scene a great ride in the Melbourne Cup.
A few of their Aussie based horses are on their way to Dubai–will be very interesting to see how Fravashi and Aichi go once they settle in. There will be a fairly substantial drop in the quality of the trainers from Peter Snowden to Saed Bin Suroor and hopefully that won’t have too much of an negative impact on the horses.
So what the hell is Mark Johnstone going on for–apparently Aussie horses are failures in UK so why is he worried. And despite failing constantly, the Aussie record in UK is heaps better than the UK record in Australia–the only success UK horses seem to have in Australia is over a distance that Australian horses don’t race all that often
And that is a point being conveniently forgotten–most non-European tracks are all pretty level (there are a few with slight rises but nothing like in UK). Choisir’s form in 3 starts in UK was probably better than his overall form in Australia–he handled the tracks very well with 2 wins at Ascot and a 2nd at Newmarket when racing in an event that was really an afterthought. It is obvious some horses handle Ascot and not Newmarket and Scenic Blast did seem uncomfortable through the run–did read elsewhere that he may have broken down, but can’t get any confirmation. The fact that he beat Fleeting Spirit so comfortably at Ascot shows he goes pretty well
It is strange how those Aussie sprinters don’t seem to keep their form long once over here. Now, I could say that this may be because you can’t cheat once in GB (like you imply of us). But I wouldn’t dare suggest such a thing.
You are kidding aren’t you–the whole argument has been started by Mark Johnstone’s implication that Aussie horses are on juice. If you care to go to MJ’s web site forum there are some who go way beyond the implying and state without any doubt that Aussie and US horses MUST be on drugs because they were able to beat the local horses.
Even the most pro UK person would agree that many horses don’t handle the Newmarket straight–the dips and rise of Newmarket is something that Aussie horses have never had to cope with and an objective viewing of Scenic Blast in the July Cup would show that he failed totally to handle the track.
What seems to have been forgotten in this thread is that although Aussies and US racing people do have respect for the quality of the best horses in UK, the implication of comments from people like Mark Johnstone shows very little respect for the quality of the overseas visitors. The UK middle distance/stayers are of the highest quality–the Aussie sprinters are also of the highest quality.
Mark Johnstone has a pretty good record in Australia
All I can say about ozzie men, rough trade who go around claiming too be real men when in the company of homosexauls. This despite the fact they have a big shortage of women some areas He who shouts loudest is often the one with the biggest secrets
After watching the majority of the crowd at the cricket the other night would have to say that Yorkshire’s comment is a case of the pot calling the kettle black
Being a qualified vet means very little actually–if he knew what he was doing he would still be working as a vet instead of being a trainer. He maybe a vet that you wouldn’t have even sent a dying dog to. Maybe the advantage he has from being a qualified vet is he knows which drugs he can administer without getting caught
Both Fantastic Love and Hatha Anna’s wins were in G2 Handicap races. Fantastic Love then went on to run 2nd in a G2 WFA. Hatha Anna did come back 12 months later and ran 20th of 23 in the Melbourne Cup.
At least, unlike the over-rated English hacks he was able to win a G1 race, and the horse he flogged at Ascot went alright at Newmarket
Somebody is conveniently forgetting All The Good and Taufan’s Melody
Wow, 2 winners from a huge number–a real good strike rate
Two winners from 4 or 5 runners in WFA races I believe that is BGM.
You should start to compare like with like ie. WFA races with WFA races rather than Handicap with WFA.
Can’t recall any English visitors winning too many WFA races–the Caufield Cup, which All The Good and Taufan’s Melody won, and the Melbourne Cup are both handicaps. On the other hand, Aussie horses have won 4 out of the last 6 or 7 King Stand Stakes.

Actually I backed both as well as delta Blues–I suppose I should change that to laying the English horses
Gee you poms have a huge chip on your shoulder–12000km away from Australia and you are able to give such an objective view of Australian racing.
The decision to enforce Australia’s strict quarantine regulations was made by the Federal authorities, separate from the racing authorities. Never having had EI here prior to last year, racing here, in particular NSW, was decimated by the outbreak. Quarantine has a responsibility to protect the whole of the equine industry Australia wide and if that requires a cautionary response, then so be it. They did not, nor did they have an obligation to, consult Bart Cummings or anyone else involved in racing at any time. Just hope they don’t prevent the Europeans from coming–sure fire way of making a killing by laying them on Betfair.
So, in the UK vets are allowed to administer any drug, as long as it’s not performance enhancing, and its out of the horse’s system by race day–exactly the same as in Australia. And in Australia, on any day, Stewards can enter any registered stable and take samples for drug testing for any substance whether a horse is due to race in the immediate future or not.
For anyone in the UK to suggest that racing in the UK is totally drug free, while Australia is awash with performance enhancing stuff is total rot–regardless of where you are there will always be a constant battle between the drug makers and the Stewards. The current situation with positive drug results in UK are most likely just the tip of a very large iceberg
The trouble I have with the Takeover Target case is that Janiak did
not
withdraw the horse after the steroids were found. With an injection in to a ligament there was no way it would clear in time. Five tests confirmed the steroid (17-alpha-hydroxy-pogesterone hexanoate) in the horses system. His trainer had
plenty of time to withdraw
the horse yet Janiak took
no action
and it was left to the
stewards
to
withdraw
the horse
themselves
.
Therefore, the conclusion I have to make is that Janiak believes it is
o.k.
to run with
steroids in a horse’s system
. Something which
unfortunately
casts
some
doubt in
my
(and probably Mark Johnstone’s) mind about TT’s performances, both
before and after
this incident. Timeform Racehorses 2006 says "Some experts, were reportedly of the opinion that the steroid
could stay there permanently
". It clearly was
not
going to clear in a few days.
That same year Honor In War (an American horse) was withdrawn
by his trainer
in a similar case, from the Cox Plate (Grade 1 Australian race).
Can our antipodean friends tell me why Joe Janiak did not withdraw Takeover Target in Hong Kong?
I am
not
saying Takeover Target was on steroids at any other time, but it does not look good. First of all careless with the injection in the first place, and then failure to withdraw the horse, when proven to be on steroids.
Credibility of both Gingertipster and Mark Johnston has probably reached a new low
There are experts who believe Takeover Target would always have the effects of that injection. Therefore, I was delighted he did not run.
Not 1 positive swab to the steroid in question since Japan–time you realised that UK sprinters are inferior–there stayers are a different story. The only advantage TT had over the GJ field is that he is better. Just accept that this is the way things are and stopped acting like a bunch of prats.
