I was looking at the entries for a race at Auteil next Monday in which Zanir is due to run, and found Zaynar amongst his rivals.
But it seems he’s been switched from Henderson to a French stable, with the trainer named as NSL Williams. That name means nothing to me – anybody got any info?
Zaynar is still with the same owners. The race is a Grade 2 hurdle over just short of 2m 4f and worth a total of 175,000 Euros. Local opposition includes some of their top older hurdlers, headed by the 15 time winner Questarabad, who has already accumulated over a million in prize money at the age of seven.

Isn’t that Nick Williams?

Yes that is Nick Williams. Can’t find any stories that the horse has been moved though. Isn’t bookie Victor Chandler a part owner?
April 21, 2011 at 07:36 #351358I’m sure you’re right – I just didn’t make the connection. Victor Chandler does indeed head the syndicate that owns Zaynar and the same people also had the disappointing According with Henderson.
VC and Nick Williams seems an unlikely pairing, but it makes sense if the owners were keen to try the horse in France as Williams has recent experience of running horses at Auteil.

April 21, 2011 at 07:39 #351359I have been searching for info on this race but can’t find any. Is there an internet source one can use?

This link provides a list of French race meetings:
http://www2.france-galop.com/FGWeb/doma … drier.aspx
Just click on the meeting you’re interested in (in this case Auteil on Apr 26th) and you’ll get a list of the races, then click on the race for the conditions and list of entries.
If you want to know more about a specific horse, you can then click on the name and that will bring up it’s previous form. Most of the past races are also available to view on replay, but you have to pay a small fee to get access to them.

April 21, 2011 at 09:21 #351370It was in the RP a couple of weeks back that the owners horses have moved to Williams,so According has gone there as well.
April 21, 2011 at 09:39 #351373Thanks ap. Maybe I’ve misread it or they’ve updated it but although Zanir is still in, Zaynar is not on the list of 8 ‘partants probables’ so I guess he’s been scratched.
April 21, 2011 at 10:16 #351383There were 13 listed early this morning, but there was a declaration stage today.
Connections of Zanir will be delighted – 8 runners and 7 of them get prize money, with 4,375 euros even for 7th.

April 21, 2011 at 16:20 #351421No idea why they’re persisting with him. A hound of the highest order. Geraghty got off him after the World Hurdle and said he needed 4-miles. The next Blazing Bailey.
April 21, 2011 at 16:53 #351429Seems to be a horse that has thrown his toys out of the pram and really isn’t enjoying his racing much these days.
Must be a real head scratcher for connections as to where to place the beast, as the change of stables and looking at French racing suggests.
Doesn’t look like he would be a natural chaser either…………
May 2, 2011 at 22:57 #353415Zaynar has been declared to run in a hurdle race at Enghien this Thursday, with Daryl Jacob taking the ride. However, he won’t be the only British raider as Lucy Wadham is sending two German bred horses over for the race, Super Directa and Victorias Groom, ridden by Dominic Elsworth and Christophe Pieux respectively. However, from a personal point of view, I’ll be looking out for Merger, owned by a very good friend of mine and one of the most delightful people in racing, Simone Auer, who hails from just outside Mannheim. Merger is the love of her life, and he’s been out injured for about two years now. However, Simone has never given up on him, and although he’ll probably need the run, it will be fantastic to the the horse back on a racetrack, which I can tell you is something I thought would never happen.
May 4, 2011 at 15:19 #353727Zaynar finished third at Engien this afternoon – a creditable performance as he was giving away a lot of weight all round and reportedly made a bad mistake 2 out. He still collectd almost £5,800 to make the journey worthwhile.
Merger was pulled up and Super Directa fell at the first, which must be a bit annoying after going all the way to Paris!
