As a spinoff from the ITV Racing thread, what would your presenting dream team be?
Here’s mine:
Presenter: Josh Stacey (Let’s Talk Racing podcast). For those who don’t know him, he looks about twelve but really knows his stuff and has an easy-going, natural presentation style.
Form: Jonathan Neesom. Best in the business, in my opinion.
Betting: Dave Yates. Maybe not a betting specialist- more of an all-rounder, really- but had to fit him in somewhere. He’s top class.
Paddock: Ken Pitterson. An excellent judge for many years now. Glad to see him get some airtime on ITV.
Ex-jockey: Ruby Walsh. Not afraid to speak his mind and, obviously, knows the game inside out.
Commentator: Stewart Machin. Another excellent all-rounder and easily the best race caller out there.
Token Irishman: Dave Jennings. Another really good presenter and form man, who is also not afraid to speak his mind.
Token female: Alice Plunkett. Enthusiastic and gives lots of equestrian insight. Many will say Lydia Hislop here, but I find her breathless, garbled delivery irritating.
Token Person Of Colour: covered by Ken.
Just for a bit of fun, as well as your team from the current crop of racing “personalities”, what would your TRF Dream Team be? Obviously, we don’t have any former jockeys here (or, if we do, they haven’t made themselves known), and not many forum members are open about their colour, but I think we could still get a decent lineup to fill the other spots.
Mine, just for a laugh, would be:
Presenter: Ian Davies. A safe pair of hands, and he can plug Barr’s cherryade at every possible opportunity.
Form: Ginge. Just the man to give us all the Timeform ratings and waffle on about value.
Betting: Mike. Always seems to know how to get the best prices and place terms.
Paddock: Nathan. Would be right in his element here, I think.
Commentator: TTC. Had to fit him in somewhere. Too good to leave out.
Token Irishman: CAS. Not sure who else on here is Irish.
Token female: Jac (Triptych). Would get lots of lovely anecdotes about days in the sun at Newmarket.
Your dream teams, please, and remember: it’s just a bit of fun. 😎
April 9, 2022 at 11:41 #1592358Be careful what you wish for – follow the link to my Twitter and you’ll see me on air with the excellent Carl Evans doing a Point livestream broadcast.
They’re still getting Ofcom complaints about me to this day.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 9, 2022 at 11:44 #1592360Fine; I’ll boot you out and put VTC instead. 😂
April 9, 2022 at 11:49 #1592362It’s the smart move.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 9, 2022 at 12:05 #1592367I am not Irish.
April 9, 2022 at 12:36 #1592373I’ll warrant he’s not a token (or coin of any description) either.
But then I’m not Welsh, despite various people over the years assuming I must be.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 9, 2022 at 12:41 #1592375The name is taken from the winner of the Cheltenham bumper in 2006, a very fondly remembered win.
I did want to use the name of my favourite ever racehorse but that was already taken.
I did used to be a frequent visitor to Ireland in the pre-covid world. Hoping to go again later this year to tick off at least two of the remaining tracks I have not visited over there. 11 to go.
April 9, 2022 at 12:47 #1592377Interesting stuff.
I, in turn, am not from Wales, but from the North West, Manley, Cheshire being my grandfather on my Dad’s side lived.
I’m hoping to get back to Wales at some point, lots of family holidays in North Wales back in the day and further south I keep getting denied a trip to Howick Point-to-Point by the weather.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 9, 2022 at 12:50 #1592378Presenter: Lydia Hislop. Best in the business and not afraid to voice an opinion.
Form: Kevin Blake and Rachel Candelora.
Betting: Anyone apart from Dave Nevison.
Paddock: Eddie Fremantle.
Ex-jockey: Ruby Walsh for jumps, Seb Sanders for Flat.
Commentator: Don’t really care, all much of a muchness.
Token female: Not really a token because I have always thought Hayley Moore is very good. Surprised she has not been taken on by ITV.
A nightmare team based on the above categories would be:
Presenter: Tom Stanley.
Form: Martin Dixon.
Betting: Dave Nevison.
Ex jockey: Mick Fitzgerald.
Commentator: Either Mike Cattermole or Derek Thompson. Good presenters but poor commentators.
Token female: Francesca Cumani.
April 9, 2022 at 12:53 #1592380Apologies, CAS. 👍
April 9, 2022 at 13:01 #1592384This could have been a good thread if it wasn’t for the “token” categories, which are unnecessary and suggest that even in 2022 this is the only way people in these categories would merit appearing on a “dream” list.
April 9, 2022 at 13:08 #1592387Not my intention at all; merely your (incorrect) interpretation. However, if you really believe that there isn’t some sort of checklist when the powers that be assemble their broadcasting teams you’re living in cloud cuckoo land.
Anyway, there’s nothing to prevent people from posting their preferred lineups without these categories if they so wish.
April 9, 2022 at 13:17 #1592389I’m sure it wasn’t Gladiateur, it just reads unfortunately.
I’m not denying some people do benefit from tokenism, but there are plenty of people in those categories who are there on merit, as I’m sure you agree.
Thanks for responding.
April 11, 2022 at 03:27 #1592940Gladiateur, I would like to offer you an apology. On reflection, I could have made the point I was trying to make in this thread in a more constructive way.
My original post was unnecessarily rude and likely to achieve little other than to antagonise, which is not my intent. Sorry.
April 11, 2022 at 08:28 #1592950The apology was not at all necessary, Marlingford, but thank you all the same.
The ”token” categories were meant to be in jest and intended to reflect the checklists that are apparently mandatory in television (not just racing, I hasten to add) these days. I happen to fall into one of those categories myself and only wish that there had been such positive discrimination thirty-odd years ago.
Anyway, isn’t anyone going to post their perfect presentation team? 🤔
April 11, 2022 at 08:31 #1592951You’d be pushed to find a more courteous and considerate contributor than Marlingford.
I found myself touched by all that – and I’m not even involved!
Sadly, I can’t offer a dream team as I’m so arrogant I don’t think there’s anyone in the racing broadcast media who can tell me anything, so the whole concept is anathema to me – sorry!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 11, 2022 at 09:44 #1592957Lead Team: Jim McGrath (British one), John Francome, Matt Chapman.
Additional thoughts and some interviews: Luke Harvey.
Commentator: Anyone BUT Hoiles.
Absolutely NO Irish Lads, until there is any coverage from Ireland.
The programme does not need more than five people. I would make it more about the horses rather concentrating on delivering a programme with so much pre-rehearsed content.
These leads would have enough content for off the cuff discussion, without any help or any aided material.Oh, and while we are here I would get rid of the terrible terrible intro music.
