Am gutted at the fact i was not their as i had a bout of tonsilitis.
Only time i have cried over missing a horse race.

August 12, 2008 at 09:26 #176773Corporate greed knows no bounds. This is being driven by law suits in the US by companies who are trying to blame youtube and google for their own failings.

.. as for articles written in the Racing Post, well what do you expect!
August 12, 2008 at 19:28 #176840It’s a real shame that this has happened because there were so many great races showing up on Youtube. They removed about half of the video’s I had uploaded and then a couple of days later my account was permernantly suspended. The user Manced 42 also had his account suspended at the same time and that really wound me up because the collection of races that he had amassed over the years was amazing.
August 12, 2008 at 19:31 #176841Is it me or are the people who run UK racing doing their best to ruin it by banning races from being shown to a huge audience around the world who will in turn put up races from their respective countries.
August 12, 2008 at 20:11 #176847Forgive my ignorance Arazi, but does this mean they are gone forever, or do you and Manced 42 still have the vids on a drive, ready to be uploaded again if Racing UK relent?
August 12, 2008 at 20:15 #176848Greg Wood covered this subject in today’s Guardian:

I had always hoped that one day RUK would be responsible for all UK non-terrestrial racing coverage. Having witnessed their actions in this matter, I now pray it will never happen.
Must everything in racing be run by the bean counters?August 13, 2008 at 06:32 #176857Agreed Reet. A shocking example of abuse of power.
In a free market, I would be throwing in my subscription at 9am this morning as a protest and transferring to a more forward thinking provider who actually cares about the opinions of their customers and the future of the market.
But RUK have the best tracks. As a keen punter, I want to watch racing at the best tracks. Ergo, RUK can behave pretty much as they please and I have to sit and take it like a good boy.
The consumer in this case faces a form of monopoly power every inch as powerful as the SIS monopoly challenged by the Turf TV consortium of which RUK is a partner. The whiff of hypocrisy in this case is as pungent as sulphur.
August 13, 2008 at 07:43 #176858Very well said by Greg Wood. It is greed, pure greed.
I had quite a lot of non racing friends, all under 25 who seen my kauto star videos and do now show an interest in racing. This is the type of publicity the sport needs, make the great races available to those who don’t know the sport.
I really do think RUK are shooting themselves in the foot because if new race goers aren’t attracted then who will be subscribing to their channel.
They’ve lost one subscriber here because of it… and others too judging by others posts. Good on you for taking such a stand.August 13, 2008 at 09:12 #176865Very bad form from the money grabbers at RUK.
If I ever have a choice of pictures providers at any time in the future cancelling my subscription will be a priority.
Good article from Greg Wood.
August 13, 2008 at 15:48 #176897A few years back ATR sent a DVD of a short interview etc. free of charge with their compliments.
Enquiring with RUK who also had a short piece of exclusive special (to us) footage I was told it would cost hundreds. The lady kindly gave a specific email address with advice, to see if a reduction was possible. I did not even receive a reply to my two emails.August 13, 2008 at 20:24 #176925Off on a slight tangent, there was an article in the Guardian today on the subject of Setanta in which the "director of corporate strategy", Richard Brooke, is quoted to the effect that "customer service issues that bedevilled [its] high-profile launch last year have…been resolved." In the context of the article, this is a reference to the launch of Premier League football on the channel last August but judging by the number of threads/postings which regularly spring up on the Betfair forum with regard to Setanta’s customer service viz-a-viz Racing UK subscribers I’d be astonished if what Brooke says is actually true. Not to put too fine a point on it, their customer service is widely regarded as absolutely abysmal.
Although I’m not one of those who routinely knock the Racing Post, I do feel that the paper’s link with Racing UK prevents it from highlighting the problems experienced by a huge swathe of the Racing UK customer base and I think this is a subject Greg Wood might usefully tackle in the near future.
August 13, 2008 at 21:33 #176927For years we outside the Uk have been robbed of any video worth looking at. I gave up hope of seeing film/video of old chaampion hurdles Gold Cups etc.
Then came along guys like Jack and Arazi who spent hours of there precious time giving pleasure to thousands.
Ok so they may be breaking a lwa or two but for the love of racing not for personal gain.
That for me hits the nail on the head…on one hand you have guys in thier own small way promoting racing nd on the otherhad blind fools who cant count to 10 killing the sport that kills them
Over and Out
August 14, 2008 at 08:51 #176960Well said fist very well said
September 4, 2008 at 18:45 #179391I really am sad and angry to find that the wonderful archive of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s racing put on YouTube by Manced 42 has been removed. I don’t know who he is, but his collection was remarkable, all the more so for not being confined simply to big races and it must have taken him a lot of time and effort to get them all onto the website. I have spent many evenings wallowing in sheer nostalgia watching them. My life is the poorer for their removal, and I would like to thank the man for sharing them with the wider world.
September 4, 2008 at 19:28 #179393I second that.
September 4, 2008 at 20:30 #179406the racing authorities just want people to go racing, consume vast quantitiies of alcohol and watch pop concerts…they don’t want people who have an interest that goes far deeper than that…I’ve only recently had broadband and was enjoying watching so many of these races..some, for the first time in many years and some, well, for the first time….it’s so short sited of them..nothing new there then…and yes, thank you to the people who put so much effort into all this.
