Gingertipster,
Have you sent your idea to enhance British racing to Nick Rust and the BHA?

Not yet Yeats, at the moment am seeing if I can improve it by including more French and Irish races.
To be honest, didn’t realise how many British horses run in Ireland and France.
Value Is EverythingAugust 3, 2017 at 16:39 #1312659The Premier League should of kicked off on Saturday at Goodwood instead it’s the worst races of the week
Saturday should of had
Goodwood Cup
Lennox
Sussex
Nassau
Richmond
King George StakesThat’s how you attract new ‘fans’ to the sport
The rest of the week should be promoted for hen party’s, lads mags and after racing music
Backwards
I’m sure the bookies have their say as well mind you with the ever increasing handicaps flooding the saturday fixture list

August 3, 2017 at 17:29 #1312664There aren’t any more handicaps than last year on the Saturday card. Changes are:
Changing from a 12f handicap to a 14f handicap.
Changing from the Nassau to the Gordon.
Doubt the bookies would be happy with that.Niether am I.
I’d keep the Sussex on the Tuesday (As far away from the French Group 1 mile).
Move the Lennox to the Wednesday (not too close to the Hungerford).
Keep the Nassau on Thursday (Ladies day).
Keep the King George on Friday.
Move the Goodwood Cup to Saturday (and have another Group race)Each day with at least one Group2 or Group 1 and a Group 1 every other day.
Each day having at least two group races, around three handicaps and a maiden most week days, with the apprentice handicap (as always) closing the card on Saturday. Have two Group races on the Group 1 days, three Group races on the days without a Group 1.There are three Group 3’s tomorrow, with one Group 2. Better get studying.

Rather than “Bookmakers”, suspect the moves are what Qatar want.
Value Is EverythingAugust 3, 2017 at 18:24 #1312668So your proposal of the Championship (Premier League) is going to change nothing bar a name and a points table
You need your fixtures on a Saturday or a Sunday else no-one bar the already fans are going to be watching it as people go to work.
I’d do the same with Royal Ascot and stick all the best races to the Saturday. These are not my personal preferences btw, I wouldn’t change very much myself, just giving another idea/alternative to the thread

I know it’s not your own “personal preferences”, Nathan; doubt it’s anyones.
You know darn well that concentrating too much in to one day of Goodwood (making every other day less than Glorious) would turn thousands of those already racing enthusiasts off the sport. It’s about attracting more people, not less. The culmination of the Champions League is Champions Day; that’s where there should be (and is) top class racing throughout. No need to get rid of a 5 day festival; there are only three Group 1’s at Goodwood anyway. All we need do is make the most of what we’ve got, not tear it down. I wouldn’t “change very much myself” either.Value Is EverythingAugust 3, 2017 at 22:43 #1312697Winter took the lead in the 2017 Premier League, today.
Value Is EverythingAugust 3, 2017 at 22:47 #1312698Had hoped the Lennox would soon be a Group 1, not helped by Breton Rock winning.
Although to this year’s standards the Sussex might be in danger of losing Group 1 status.Value Is EverythingAugust 4, 2017 at 06:26 #1312719Winter took the lead in the 2017 Premier League, today.
Yeah, and newcomers would be absolutely drooling over that fact and coming back for more if your “Championship” was in place

The non racing fans will still flood the racecourse to drink the place dry and listen to the wurzul’s after racing din making.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
August 4, 2017 at 10:31 #1312747It would “turn them off” because if it’s “handicaps and maidens throughout the week” you’ll turn a 5 day festival in to 4 days of ordinary racing, with a 1 day festival at the end. Doing the same to Royal Ascot, Newmarket July, York, Doncaster, wouldn’t “enhance our sport”, it’ll do the opposite. Be serious, Nathan.
It might be a good idea to have festivals running in to Sundays, yes. So that more people can enjoy them.

Coming in to Goodwood you’d have four horses challenging for the lead, Big Orange could have joined them on the Tuesday. Ribchester went to the head on his own Wednesday and Winter did so yesterday.
2017 PREMIER LEAGUE: Standings coming in to Goodwood:
200 Winter, Ribchester, Enable, Highland Reel
180 Barney Roy
150 Ulysses
140 Harry Angel
100 Lady Aurelia, Caravaggio, The Tin Man, Churchill, Wings Of Eagles, Big Orange2017 PREMIER LEAGUE standings right now:
300 Winter
240 Ribchester
200 Enable, Highland Reel
180 Barney Roy
160 Stradivarius
150 Ulysses
140 Harry Angel, Big Orange,
100 Lady Aurelia, Caravaggio, The Tin Man, Churchill, Wings Of Eagles. If Winter is to add to that score she’d now need to go in to open company (Nassau was the last fillies race at up to 1m2f in the competition). Caravaggio could put himself back in the picture if winning the MdeGeest, Sunday. Enable could join Winter at the top if winning the Yorkshire Oaks (the final fillies race). Ribchester could leap frog those if going again for the Marois or may be Churchill can get back in to contention? Barney Roy Vs Ulysses Vs Highland Reel or Churchill or Winter in the International.

Mid week racing festival or not can’t be classed as Premier League running at 3.35pm on a Tuesday afternoon Ginge.
People work, non racing fans are not going to take the day off to watch one ‘Premier League race’ that last under 2 minutes to end up looking at a table that says Winter is top. They will be asking when does Winter take on Battaash, can’t wait to see that race….

Even a football fan can not watch every football match live, many go on simultaniously. They watch a recording of Match Of The Day in the evening or are content just to find out Chelsea have beaten Man City to go top of the table. People can record the racing and watch it in the evening too once they’re established fans, if that’s what they want. For those that work office hours the Saturday or Sunday races can trigger their interest. Some that don’t work office hours may even be attracted by week day races/at Festivals. People don’t need to see every Premier League match/race. These Premier League races are all either at the weekend or at a Festival. Festivals are part of horse racing, they’re something unique that should be celebrated. Racing’s “Premier League” can not (nor should it try to) be exactly the same as Football’s. It’s primarily a name, so that non-racing/potential enthusiasts realise what they’re watching is top quality action.
Only change I’d make to the racing diary is moving Oaks day to the Sunday – like the 1000 Guineas.
Once again, it is not football, it is horse racing. I doubt there would be many asking “when does Winter take on Battaash”? Just as there won’t be many this week asking when does Mo Farrah take on Usain Bolt in the human racing “Championships”?
Value Is EverythingAugust 5, 2017 at 07:19 #1312906But as Goodwood is this week with group ones on first 3days,I haven’t bothered with the last 2days and switched my attentions to the test match.

Exactly, R&S.
At a racing Festival – the best quality racing can not be concentrated on one day (like Nathan adheres to) or fewer days (like you imply); otherwise it’ll lose viewers on the other days.Value Is EverythingAugust 5, 2017 at 10:28 #1312939I don’t adhered to it ginge, just playing devils advocate, throwing in a different idea to yours.
