Last week we had the worst Hatton’s Grace ever, this week the worst Tingle Creek. What next?
December 6, 2014 at 20:39 #497729There is a Grade 3 at Cork you might want to look at.

The fact
Somersby
ran 2nd tells you it was a very good renewal of the Tingle creek Befair, collateral form of the 10yo reads well as he’s been in the frame against 5 recent Champion chasers in
Sire de Grugy
,
Sprinter Sacre
,
Finians Rainbow
,
Sizing Europe
and
Master Minded
.The fact
Dodging Bullets
beat Lady Radfords most reliable chaser easily puts him right in there as a Champion chaser and should he get better ground in March he’ll sprint away from everything after the last….He wont be 40/1 either on the day.

Took the words out of my mouth. A far stronger field than in last Sunday’s Royal Bond.

Unfortunately, I was actually referring to the mares race which carries a greater prize than the novice which I would agree looks very interesting.

The 2012 renewal of the Imperial Call Chase (a Grade 3 at Cork) sets the benchmark for low quality graded fare. Four runners lined up boasting official ratings of 107, 106, 98 and 97.
December 7, 2014 at 07:58 #497756Thought it made a refreshing change to have a wide open, competitive field for the Tingle Creek and it was an excellent race to watch and have an interest in. Not keen on a small field with a stand out, short price fav every year.
December 7, 2014 at 10:15 #497763It’s quite possible that Dodging Bullets and Somersby would have been fighting Cenkos and Le Roi Miguel for fourth if they timewarped back to Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop and Well Chief’s day.

December 7, 2014 at 15:01 #497790I didn’t think it was a good renewal and that is why I thought the youngest horse, Vukovar, might be in the mix.
My pick ran a stinker, as did Gods Own and Balder Success seems to have something to prove now after his effort. With Oscar Whisky falling, sadly causing a fatal injury, it was left to Somersby to roll back the years and give Dodging Bullets the most to do.
Somersby is a grand old stick, perhaps not quite as good as his original trainer and some racing fans thought, but he turns eleven in less than a month’s time and he’s surely not getting any faster.
Dodging Bullets was an inspired selection for his fans but perhaps it’s worth keeping a cautious view to the form of this race. My own feeling is that Sire De Grugy would have won this race fairly tidily had he turned up in full health.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 8, 2014 at 08:36 #497849I did seriously consider DB after backing him at Cheltenham at the PP meeting. Uxizandre served it up to him that day and I decided he wasn’t good enough to win a TC, even though not the strongest. But PN again gets more improvement from his horse and with hindsight I know I should have backed him because I do think he is a good jumper which is exactly what you need at Sandown. This is the main reason I did not consider Oscar Whiskey, RIP, and could not understand the confidence in the market
