I would love to see Henderson give Zaynar a run in this. He shapes like a thorough stayer, and as I stated elsewhere, you only have one horse to beat in the Stayers, whereas in the Champion, any one of 7 or 8 could win it.

Good shout,i would agree with that!
January 8, 2010 at 21:39 #268867Only problem with that theory is that Zaynar is much more likely to beat the half-dozen in the Champion Hurdle, than he is to beat one in the World Hurdle.
Big Buck’s is a half-stone better than this Champion Hurdle field, Zaynar is far from a mere stayer, and he surely has every chance in the Champion Hurdle.
January 8, 2010 at 22:12 #268876I concur grassy, there seems like there are 6 or 7 to beat in the Champ because there seems to be no superstar in.
January 8, 2010 at 22:27 #268880Grass, Horsemouth, I see your point, but it only takes ONE horse in the Stayers to have an off-day, whereas Zaynar needs a few to under-perform if he is to win the Champion. Zaynar is a quality animal, and I love his attitude, but I genuinely dont believe he has the raw speed to win a Champion. Whats Henderson got to lose by going for the Stayers??? By the way, was Big Bucks a stone clear on ratings going into Cheltenham last year? No. Thats where they get their ratings, usually. If Zaynar goes in the stayers, and beats Big Bucks, what do u say then? That hes suddenly improved a stone and a half?? U just cannot compare their ratings, Stayers to 2-milers.
January 8, 2010 at 22:32 #268881For the record, I really cant see beyond Big Bucks, but wouldn’t it be fascinating to see him line up against Zaynar? Atleast it would make the Staying division that little bit more interesting and competitive.
January 9, 2010 at 00:22 #268912Karabak is the one for me, thought he was ridden to get the trip last time out and now connections are aware he stays it well fancy him to run a blinder come March and if you can still get 8/1 e/w he is the bet.
January 9, 2010 at 01:11 #268913Sentry Duty goes straight to the World Hurdle with no run.
January 9, 2010 at 03:58 #268917Red Riot, Sentry Duty can go to the World Hurdle NOW, start NOW, and he still wont be good enough to win it. Dont waste ur hard-earned.
Karabak is a lovely honest horse, but if hes good enough to win a World Hurdle, Id be disappointed.

Had a look in the barrel and the ar$e has been scraped right out of it. I know they said the Titanic couldn’t sink but about the only thing that will stop Big Buck’s from winning is if he was hit by the same ice berg.
Tidal Bay back over hurdles? You can not be serious! The horse has ability. The ability to let every jockey know who sits on him that he’s the boss. His problem isn’t physical it’s mental aptitude. It will come up his humph one day to run away with his jockey but I can only wish anyone who backs him in any race the best of luck.
Nicky Henderson has not said Sentry Duty will go straight to the World Hurdle he said he could which is a world of difference. Most likley he’ll try and pick up the Cleeve hurdle beforehand and have some more prize money in the bag before skipping the light fandango with Big Buck’s.
Not only does he have to prove he gets 3 miles round Cheltenham it has to bring out massive improvement out of him. Going straight there only to find out he doesn’t get the trip means his season will have all but gone for nothing. Pretty sure NH hasn’t that amount of confidence in this horse and weather permitting will find somewhere to test him out very soon.
I backed Big Buck’s yonks ago at 3/1 which now looks great value but there is still a possible value bet.
He’s not going to win but if I think Karabak is the banker of the meeting . Currently 2.3 with luck he should be around 1.8 – 2.00 for a place on the day if most of them turn up. Be shocked if he’s not in the first 3.January 9, 2010 at 17:05 #268993Glad to hear that Nicky Henderson will send Sentry Duty for the World Hurdle.
I mentioned in the Champion Hurdle thread that the three mile championship would be a far more suitable option…and isn’t it nice to know that such a celebrated trainer reads TRF!!

You need anymore advice, Nicky, you know where to go.

In my opinion, the horse will be bang there. I think he’ll improve for the trip – he certainly travels well in his races and his style will give him a great chance of seeing the trip out well.
Like I mentioned in the CH thread, he beat Celestial Halo as a novice and won The Ladbroke off a huge weight. He also boasts a competitive handicap win on the flat.
He’s a horse with plenty of talent.
Can he beat Big Buck’s? I doubt it and I think Nicky feels the same way. He’ll stalk the Paul Nicholls superstar the entire way and, like Barbers Shop in the King George, the orders wil be to ride for a place.
In my opinion, I’d be very surprised if the first three placings aren’t filled by Big Buck’s, Karabak and Sentry Duty.
January 9, 2010 at 18:47 #269012Personally, I don’t think SENTRY DUTY is a World Hurdle horse. His pedigree does not shout that a step up in trip will suit and think he would be better coming of a faster pace over 2 miles. His jumping can be sketchy at best and I feel the faster pace just helps him concentrate that bit more.
January 9, 2010 at 20:20 #269034I personally see Sentry Duty as ideal for the 2m4f Aintree Grade 1.
January 10, 2010 at 12:44 #269107Hi folks i have 2 questions?
1. How many runners do you think there will be in the race?
2.Just wondering what price you think Powerstation should be for a place?Personnally i cant see him out of the frame as he’ll be ridden for a place as opposed to Karabak/sentry who’ll be trying to topple Big Bucks. I’d much prefer to be on a proven stayer like Powerstation who has consistently overperformed at Chelt than a possible non stayer like Sentry Duty who has run well at chelt only once from 3 runs. I believe 33/1 powerstation is a gift from an each way perspective
January 10, 2010 at 16:02 #269133Quite like the look of Time for Rupert in this… Won on course and distance recently giving lumps of weight away to Made in Japan who’s come out since and run credibly.
94/1 on betfair seems a bit daft.January 10, 2010 at 20:37 #269180I personally see Sentry Duty as ideal for the 2m4f Aintree Grade 1.
Good shout Peruvian Chief.
That could well be the better option for the Henderson animal.
January 12, 2010 at 21:47 #269535At the risk of causing great mirth, but out of a genuine desire to try and find a surprise option, what about Ballyfitz?
