Cousin Vinny ran Mikael to 4l at Punchestown as a novice. He hacked over Pandorama before falling and he is up near the front of the market for the RSA.
Hmm he could be overlooked and he likes Festival time…
February 18, 2010 at 15:59 #277602OK No Champion Hurdle chance for Zanyar now, agreed? Not that I ever thought there was!
How long before some idiot suggests heruns in/has a chance in /could win
The World Hurdle?

Do u always write a horse off after 1 poor run

No Sir, it usually takes two poor runs, I was very unimpressed with him …considering the expectations …at Chelteham in the manner he eventually reeled in Cape Tribulation.
Hardy the stuff of a champion
February 18, 2010 at 18:27 #277645Fair enough!
February 24, 2010 at 19:07 #278860hi all, just been looking through the runs on last years festival. one that caught my eye was the ryanair and the way tidal bay finished the race like a train. his jumping was terrible and coming to the second last looked bout 30 lengths back, yet got within 10 lengths of imperial commander!
over hurdles we all no he is a class act and the way he gets up that hill surely he can get big bucks beat. please watch ryanair last year and tell me ur thoughts?
i am a massive fan of big bucks so im not knocking him he bailed me out bigtime last year after a bad first 2 days. he was a cert for me to bet this year but at 4-7 i had to take him on. i believe if tidal bay is given better ground than the cleeve hurdle day he comes on a mile! u mark my words this is the horse to be on not only each way but win.

100% Agreed on all points but back him EW just in case
February 24, 2010 at 19:41 #278870So on soft ground he’s a 160 horse but on good ground he’s a 175 horse.
I like it. May switch to this absolute nutter of a horse, sounds good.
February 24, 2010 at 20:00 #278872Big bucks I’m not saying big bucks will cannot win he obviously a class act but why u wanna take 4-7 on him winning when u can get tidal bay 9-1 a place pays even pays 7-4. If ur referring to big bucks rating 175 he has earned that rating but if u always follow horses with top rating u will find that they do get turned over. ALOT. Tidal bay can match big bucks up the hill no problem if there together at the last tidal runs away with it. If tidal bay did not switch 2 fences and stayed with hurdles. What would his rating be. 175 no problem. Good luck

He’s no nutter, in fact he’s one of the gamest horses in training, just look how hard he tried over fences when he obviously hated them, it was wonderful to see how much he was enjoying being back over hurdles in the Cleeve, even my wife, no great race reader but knows horses, commented on how happy and enthusiastic he looked every time he came into close up

I’m on at 4/1, 3/1 and 5/2.
Horses with such a huge rating can get turned over, of course, but it’s rarer than you imply when everything will be in that horse’s favour, as it is whatever the track, ground and opposition.
How do you know Tidal Bay "can match Big Bucks"? Is it his beating of a handicapper in the Cleeve? Or his 2nd placings behind Massinis Maguire and Wichita Lineman? I’d suggest he has to have improved around a stone to be challenging Big Bucks at the last with a realistic chance.
Why does Tidal Bay "run away with it"? The Cleeve fell apart, it was a dreadful race. By contrast Big Buck’s outspeeded Punchestowns up the Hill and on good ground on a flat track he danced away from Mighty Man at Aintree. Tidal Bay may well be knackered by the time he gets to the hill.
Lastly on this score, Tidal Bay was a hound over fences. His Arkle win was thoroughly ordinary and he’s been beaten left right and centre yet you think he’s up to the level of Imperial Commander who thrashed him in the Ryanair?Where does Karabak come then? Got to within 2L of a horse that everyone proclaims (perhaps rightly) to be a potential wonderhorse in MDH. I don’t think Massinis Maguire was a wonderhorse? Karabak has then got as close as any horse can to Big Bucks, is rated 7lbs superior to Tidal Bay and, given Tidal Bay is a 9yo, open to much more improvement than Tidal Bay.
Doesn’t stack up really, does it?
February 24, 2010 at 20:37 #278886I’m on at 4/1, 3/1 and 5/2.
When did take those prices? I backed him ante-post last year but going in at short odds so far in advance is not my thing. Having said that 4/1 on the day will look the best bet of Cheltenham.
February 24, 2010 at 20:53 #278892Nice prices big bucks I wouldn’t mind being on those prices fair play. But still have a bit of tidal. I didn’t say he was anywhere near as good ic in ryanair I said it was eyecatchin how he run up the hill after at least 10 dreadful jumps. U got 2 agree he is a different animal over hurdles never out of first 2. I agree with karabak but somehow can’t see it although he got close 2 big bucks it wasn’t big bucks greatest race was it? On another day he would of had him well beaten Imo. Good luck anyway All the best for festival. Wha else u on?
February 24, 2010 at 20:58 #278894I don’t think that anyone is suggesting Tidal Bay will beat Big Bucks (i’m certainly not anyway), but I have say that you really are being a little unfair on Tidal.
He’s proven at the course, has good Festival form, and, in a very weak division, is surely stuck on to run into a place. With the exception of Big Bucks, the Stayers divison this year is a load of pish, and favourite aside, there is nothing of note in the field. (Except maybe Karabak).
Big Bucks will win, but I can’t see anything else finishing in front of Tidal Bay, and, at 9-1, he’s the each way play of the Festival.

Tidal Bay’s alright "getting up that hill" when it’s 2m5f, or a slowly run 3m and he’s receiving lumps of weight from has-beens & handicappers. That won’t apply in the World Hurdle, and I’ll be surprised if he’s not done for by the bottom of the hill.
February 24, 2010 at 21:45 #278912same to you walshy, not saying anything can’t win, it’s racing after all, but just because the fav isn’t a license for rather crude comparisons (in general nothing personal) in terms of quality achieved on the racecourse.
4/1 was after his Stayers win and I think he was 7/2 3/1 after Aintree.
Agree with Hard Held but it’s all about opinions and maybe Tidal will have a going day and serve his backers well. Certainly adds something to the race, best of luck all!
