Foolishly I’ve hatched all my eggs into Trumps basket again. Cant believe how bad he’s been this year yet still is joint favourite, those bookies must have seen me coming as I’ve been nibbling away on him since the last World’s.

Still if he avoids the old food poisoning and finds his form  , he could surprise me and do quite well, think he will enjoy the longer frame format.

Of all the others in this once again wide open event Mark Selby stands out after winning a couple of the main events this season. It wouldn’t shock me if Ronnie blitz the lot. I like Ding but he doesn’t inspire me with confidence. Mark Allen, Robertson and Murphy are all capable and Bingham solid, with the longer frame format think it will go to one of the top players and have ruled out the underdogs.

First round Draw is on April 1st.

I forgot John Higgins  , says it all no wonder I never win when betting on the Snooker.

I don’t think it is the 1st round draw tomorrow, something to do with the qualifiers instead. It would be good if Lisowski got through very entertaining player.

Haven’t been watching the last few tournaments but from form earlier in the year i fancy Shaun Murphy to win a big 1 soon, his long potting is freaklike at times and his shot selection isn’t quite as wild as it has been in the past, so i’ll probably chance a few quid e/w at about 14 or 16/1,hopefully one of the bookies offer first 4 places, think Boyles did it last year or the year before.

I’m also going to have a few quid on Ronnie simply because i had him backed last year :D and he is Ronnie  If anyone can totally disregard a whole seasons matchplay and turn up on the day and play as if he’s been on top form all year it is the king himself :P

Good luck with your picks Fran.

Lisowski got through, he’s one to avoid in the first round. Final day of the qualifiers tomorrow. It would be great if Jimmy White made it back.

I’ve had a saver on Trump @7/1 for this as I always back him.

But my main bet goes on Ali Carter 30s on betfair currently which is a HUGE price for a man who has twice finished runner up to Ronnie. He’s hit a bit of form this year winning in Germany hopefully the draw is kind an someone else knocks Ronnie out

Going by the draw O’Sullivan will play Carter in round 2 if they both progress. But on the bright side Ronnie’s had a long time off proper match play and if Carter beats him his confidence would be sky high and odds tumble. I cant really see too many potential upsets in round 1, was hoping Lisowski would have played a bigger name than Hawkins but if he gets through will meet Selby which could be interesting.

    WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST ROUND

I think you summarised things well, Nathan. I am hoping for a good performance from young Lisowski too. I saw him play at The Snooker Shootout a few months ago and thought there was something very fluent and effortless about his game.

I am also a Trump fan, but will probably side with Robertson in the end.

Neil Robertson for me. He’s played well all season, has won here before and looks on paper to have a comfortable draw through to the semis. Also a small e/w bet on Ali Carter, again he’s played well here before and if he’s ever going to beat Ronnie at the Crucible then this could be his year. Finally, I have Michael White and Sam Baird to win their 1st round matches in a double.

Ronnie’s 5-1 up and playing better than ok BUT Campbell messed up big time in one frame and has just broke down with a 50 point lead in this so could easily be 4-3 instead and the likely scoreline of 6-1 if Ronnie takes advantage is a little bit flattering to O’Sullivan. Needs to improve when coming up against a better opponent but capable.

Good shout with White, Pat. I wish I had followed you in, I’ve been telling myself how awful Williams has been playing everything I’ve watched him but completely overlooked it. Good luck with your double, Baird will have to play well as Bingham is ultra consistent and will not get flustered if trailing.

Baird just didn’t turn up against Bingham but it was a tall order anyway so now I’m just left with Carter. It should be a cracking last session tomorrow night and if he gets off to a good start he may do it but the way Ronnie turned it on today in the last two frames after he was pegged back was a bit ominous.

Baird looked more nervous than a nervous kitten in a dogs home. I wouldn’t begrudge Ding a place in the final but it would be great to see one of the others from the bottom half get the place, could really push one of them on for future years.

I’ve greened up a little on Trump as although he’s playing well still needs to curb some of his enthusiasm when on a roll as the likes of Murphy and winner of Ronnie/Carter match will punish him if he doesn’t.

Fear Carter may have missed his big chance yesterday O’Sullivan looked

    shattered

but as already stated he pulled it out the bag in the last two frames. Having said that at least Carter is still in the match thought my money had gone west when he was 5-1 down.

Ricky Walden deserves a mention playing well at the moment should see off Milkins then faces a winnable quarter final against White.

The way the tournament has gone so far I wouldn’t rule anyone out.

Carter could have won the first frame tonight then it may have been a different story but Ronnie was well on top at the end. Carter’s body language towards the end said it all, maybe he knows he can’t beat Ronnie.

A possible semi between Ronnie and Trump could be a cracker but Murphy will make it tough for Trump. In the bottom half I also like the chances of Walden, he should be too strong for White and at the current odds he’s better value than either Ding or Hawkins to reach the final.

Over 29.5 frames at evens in the O’Sullivan v Trump match. Think it’s more than fair in the first to win 17 frames for the loser to hit at least 13 frames for it to come in.

Well Trump needs 7 and can only afford to lose 2 so it’s looking a daunting task but stranger things have happened. Had to feel a bit for Trump this morning he got more kicks than a heavily pregnant woman………. :(
