I haven’t seen anything that would persuade me to avoid Wolverhampton as an owner, although to be fair, the issue won’t arise as both horses will be resting for the next two to three months after tomorrow.
Well said AP – knee jerk stuff from the masses imo

    AP
Is a heart attack congruent with breaking a leg?
If not it is hard to see the connection?

A horse that would have a heart attack would just collapse and die, I have never known a horse to break a leg while having a heart attack…
I have emailed my friend who is a equine vet, to see what they say, might be worth it to get a professionals opinion on this..

Have you got a friend who could give us the NH death/runner rate, or would that negate your opinion racinggirluk.

I can get that from the Jockey Club…I will email them later, just popped in before I go racing….
But this has nothing to do with the fatalities at Wolverhampton..but I understand people have issues with fatalites in horseracing…maybe this could be a good debate on another post

The reason i ask is that i remember the spate at Cheltenham during the festival one year. I also noted the link and thought the anti AW crew had a new recruit. i hate injuries to any animal and if i thought there was a link between wolverhampton and fatalities i would agree with an urgent inqury.
Racecourses are built with the sole purpose of unpredictable results, in you know who’s benefit. I just get irate when people can’t be honest and use back door methods to further slag off the AW. Racing where horses are that close together is allways going to have the potential for accidents, even on the straight courses where they all bunch up looking for the faster strip.

Thought I might bring this to the top again as there have been no reported casualties since. Is that because there has been no significant rain in the meanwhile, or are they preparing the track differently?
Either way, in view of the lack of subsequent incident, it would seem that arguments about over-racing, bunching, and inexperienced riders, no longer hold water, if you’ll pardon the pun, and the problem will arise again in the future unless a permanent solution has been found?

After the latest incident, there were 3 days racing on the 13th, 14th and 15th when the track was riding appreciably slower than at any time recently. By the time they raced again on the 18th, the times had quickened up again and they have been around standard ever since.
