Hugh Bowman’s interview with Matt Chapman regarding Winx.

” Winx has 15 – 20 lb in hand of the opposition in Australia …. why travel and disrupt her preparation against better horses ? We would like those horses to come to us, but that is another matter ”

He does have an idea to attract Australian horses to Royal Ascot though eg. The Commonwealth Cup

” What they should do is allow our three year old’s to run with a ten pound penalty for being six months older. Then it would not surprise me in the least if you got loads of horses coming over ”

No idea if Matt asked if that would work both ways.

Well, Winx returned to action in the Winx Stakes G1 beating Invictus Prince 2Ls….a very average middle distance horse owned by Queenie over here.

Couldn’t make it up! Easy money for the owners…but it must get boring at some point.

Winx has a “face-off” with Benbatl in the Caulfield Cup.

On his day a decent horse, but not one i would say is tip-top. Some how he is rated 123, 4 pds off Roaring Lion’s current mark….to me that’s pie in the sky stuff considering it is derived from Meydan.

She’ll get 4pds, and doubtless beat him. At least for the Aussie’s sanity you’d hope she will!

Watch the race this morning, Winx won in a canter, no doubt Matt Chapman’s quip in the week “what has she beaten”…what a tit.

That was not a canter. Hugh drew and used the whip. Montjeu’s King George was a “canter”.

My knowledge of geography being pretty rubbish, can anyone tell me if Winx has ran in races in different parts of Australia with different time zones or are most of her races in the same place?

moe, all races in the eastern states of (top to bottom) Queensland, NSW and Victoria, all in same time zone.

Thanks wit; I hadn’t realised till now she was by Street Cry who was also Zenyatta’s sire, but, strangely enough after seeing her race this morning I started thinking about Zenyatta and wondering how she was.

being capable of giving her best time after time is remarkable enough.

Benbatl is a decent yard stick as was the likes of highland reel.

She is obviously very good and consistent and sound which is a big plus BUT and it is a big but what has she beaten as far as world class is concerned?
I don’t often agree with Matt Chapman but the question is there for all to see. She has not IMO beaten a world class group one horse ever unless I have missed something.

Benbatl getting that close to her, has just given me the best weekends trolling of Aussies that you could ever imagine. :yahoo:

If I had a pound for every time I’ve been called a “dirty pom” this weekend :yahoo:

They get so emotional about Winx, especially the women :yahoo:

I know it’s bad and I’m going to hell, but comparing her to Frankel… They just HAVE to get told :yahoo:

One especially passionate Aussie lady called Carol, she says that Winx would have beaten Frankel ten lengths. After telling her over and over again, showing her ratings for two days… Explaining to her that Winx has only beaten, not a lot really… All she had left is sectional times. Carol likes to swear a lot, and her comprehension of the English language is, well, it’s not great let’s say.

This is my last reply to Carol…

I’ll take that last reply as an admission Carol, finally, that you’re wrong. I understand that you’re a female, so you find it pretty hard to actually admit this. I read your post in this way actually Carol… “Yes Mark, you’re right”. “In future Mark, I’ll understand that our second rate mare, is not as great as we all thought she was”. “I’m sorry I called you names Mark, that’s just the convict gene coursing through my veins”. “Sorry Mark, Frankel was vastly superior to Winx”…. That’s okay Carol, no sweat, we all make mistakes. I’m just glad that I was here to correct you. Take care Carol, and good luck with your typing problems. If you could remember what I told you about using the language that we gave you, correctly, that would be amazing.

I definitely deserve to go to hell :yahoo:

She doesnt have to be compared to Frankel.

Shes beaten plenty of decent sorts. We dont keep making a thing out of what has Enable or Seathestars beaten or that Frankel won the worst Guineas possibly ever. Her acvievements make her one the great fillies.

There’s no question that she’s a great mare. But how great, there is a question as too. I’m in Raymo’s camp. She’s beaten nothing really apart from Highland Reel & Benbatl. She’s never faced a REAL top notcher. I also think her style of racing, is taylor made for those tight turning Aussie tracks. If she’d have come to the UK, she’d have got beat on a long straight. They done the right thing keeping her out there. No question she’s a great mare. But at 1m and above, their racing is third rate. Best sprinters in the world maybe, but middle distance horses… No.

Frankel’s sectional times were mind-blowing, if she wants to go that route.

Mate, honestly, there is absolutely nothing I can say to Carol, that will quash her undying belief in Winx. Ratings mean nothing to Carol, the truth means nothing to Carol. Frankel was a pommy donkey to Carol. Darley and Coolmore (in secret) send their best horses, and their best stallions to Australia according to Carol.

Any rating, or speed figure that says different, is fake according to Carol. According to Carol, I’m a racist, misogynist, who’s responsible for persecuting the Irish, and the aboriginal peoples of the world. Do you know how I done all of these monstrosities? She called me a pom, so I called her a convict. I still have not worked out how calling Carol a convict, was persecuting the Irish and Aborigines, I gave up trying to work it out :yahoo: .

I had fun with Carol, but, dear lord she was mind numbingly crazy

Winx suffers the same fate as Frankel; because she never raced outside her own locality, she has never achieved the worldwide acclaim she deserves.
