Will forumites be….
– Decorating an Outdoor Edible Tree for the Animals
– Making Winter Solstice Lanterns
– Reading Winter Solstice Books
– Making Orange Pomanders
– Spending The Night By Candlelight
– Making Some Wassail (whatever the F that is)
– Reflecting, Releasing, Letting Go, and Setting Intentions For The New Season
OR
Simply “crying to the southern wind” for what (tomorrow) will be: “tonight, the longest night.”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 20, 2021 at 18:55 #1573496I find the seven weeks or so of descent into darkness between the clocks ‘going back’ on the last Sunday in October and now to be the most trying period of the year; hence the winter solstice is always welcomed as it marks the demise of decay and the instigation of growth
Psychologically comforting even if increase in day length will be barely noticeable for a few weeks yet
The earliest sunset actually occured about a week ago: 1551 in London but 1553 tomorrow. Sunrise tomorrow is 0804 but reaches its latest of 0806 on Boxing Day
This is not a strange astronomical anomaly, just an effect caused by our nearly-but-not-quite-accurate 24 hour day, which requires a reset with an extra day every leap year
Onwards and upwards

December 20, 2021 at 20:49 #1573517I’ll be celebrating by studying the form for Kempton on Boxing Day.
The true meaning of Christmas.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 20, 2021 at 21:07 #1573522Last year I drove up the A303 to Stonehenge, erected my Maypole and invited people to dance around it. Wrong solstice apparently, long drive home that was and I’m sure the police were following me.
December 20, 2021 at 21:23 #1573524Larkhill is very close to Stonehenge, as in Family Kebab in Amesbury.
I recommend both.

December 20, 2021 at 21:50 #1573530I think every thread is in danger of becoming about the same subject – I was trying to break away from that.
