Now why can’t people set puzzles like this in the quiz question thread?
Anyone But Murray.
June 28, 2010 at 00:40 #303538Did you know, Soderling was available at 33s with one firm at the start?
Huge price.
No, I never looked at anything other than to find out what price Federer was at the start of the tournament. I never back him though.
Great day today. Of the two "close" matches that stand out for me I like Clijsters to beat Henin and Hewitt to beat Djokovic.
If Henin persists with the crazy tactic of going after the first and second serves too much she’ll get murdered.
Hewitt’s mentally tougher than Djokovic. It’s as simple as that for me apart from the fact grass is Hewitt’s best surface.

Henin will beat Cluisters and I reckon Djokovic will beat Lleyton pal.

Oh well, I got one right and got one wrong. At the odds I’d break even.
Henin has work to do in the future because I don’t think Clijsters played all that well, even in the 2nd and 3rd sets.
And the Hewitt, Djokovic match was what I expected apart from the fact Hewitt never took his chances in the 4th.
I think it turned into a bit of a dream day for Federer. Roddick going out, and despite his head-to-head record Roddick could always be dangerous. Hewitt losing to Djokovic doesn’t look a bad thing with Djokovic’s health and fitness issues. And on the other side of the draw Soderling, Nadal and Murray all remain.
And I think it’s a huge shame the seedings have messed up the women’s event to some extent. Wimbledon should use it’s discretionary powers to stop the likes of Jankovic and Wozniacki being seeded 3 and 4. It’s some kind of stupid joke.
June 29, 2010 at 08:49 #303736My initial concerns about Roger Federer being out of sorts are no more. He has re-discovered his touch and now looks like the one to beat… again ! Andy Murray is also on fire. He’s playing with a lot of confidence.
As for women’s singles; heavens above.
– and they are demanding equal pay.
It’s just so predictable. The Williams sisters can play at half tilt and still blow most of their opponents away. I watched Serena’s grunt-a-thon against Miss Sharapova yesterday. Brute strength and will to win triumphed in the end. She will definitely be contesting another final at the weekend against her sister or Kim Clijsters.
Today, I will back both Williams sisters to win in straight sets. It’s worth a speculative punt anyway.

He must have a great chance, I noticed the media are calling him British again

They crave a winner from somewhere – anywhere !

Big Serena marches on, whilst older sister, Venus, went out with a whimper
… much like the England football team.

The womens is over now, Serena Is about 1/7.
I watched her against Sharapova, I reckon she’s a man in drag
June 29, 2010 at 21:06 #303840Serena Williams won’t be beaten. She won’t drop a set and I doubt she will drop her serve again in the next 2 matches.
An exiting day tomorrow. Provided Federer and Murray get through, I’ll be happy and content. Hopefully Nadal and his supposedly dodgy knees will be heading home after Soderling’s served 30 aces and hit the lines with his ground-strokes perfectly. I wouldn’t mind it if Lu dug out another shock against Djokovic. Federer can have a practice match rather than a SF that way.
June 30, 2010 at 18:45 #303918Whoever wins the semi between Murray and Rafa has won it in my eyes now.
June 30, 2010 at 18:48 #303919If Berdych beats Djokovic we might have a "Final." If not we’ll get a procession.

Djokovic is 4/5 jolly and Thomas Evens.

Quite shocked at that tbh. I expected Djokovic to be a lot shorter. He’ll stand and attempt to grind Berydch down more, whereas Federer’s instinct was still to want to have the first strike where possible. I can’t see how Djokovic can beat Murray or Nadal. To me they both do what Djokovic does a lot better, which is why I feel Berydch might give us a "Final."
Federer never played poorly today. According to the statistics he made 18 unforced errors in 4 sets, which shows that Berydch truly won the match. The key for Federer was break point conversions, but at the same time his shots to the eye didn’t really look to be running through the court at enough speed to trouble Berydch’s movement. I’m reading how he’s finished, it’s the end of an era etc. It is in some ways, but that started in 2008 at the the Olympics for many yet he’s still won 4 GS titles since. I know one thing from listening to Federer – he holds Del Potro and his ability in the highest regard possible.
July 1, 2010 at 09:19 #303970I’ve taken a leaf out of old Gingertipster’s book ( if only temporarily
) and went for the value bet.Rightly or wrongly, I’ve taken 9/2 Djokovic winning the title.

I think he’ll have too many guns for Berdych.
Nadal v Murray should be a cracker. Although I see Nadal as slight favourite in this one, Murray is playing really well. He has toughened up mentally and looks much fitter than in previous years.

Novak is still prone to the odd bad spell in matches and that’s not something he can do now, good luck though fella.
I’m delighted to be holding a 7/1 Murray bet and I seriously believe
that IF he beats Rafa tomorrow, I’ll be picking up.July 2, 2010 at 14:53 #304193Novak is still prone to the odd bad spell in matches and that’s not something he can do now…
Djokovic is a weird one to fathom.
Either brilliant or poor. Today he was poor. It’s definitely a mental/confidence thing with him. Berdych thoroughly deserved his victory and totally didctated from start to finish.Think I’ll give up predicting tennis matches.

July 2, 2010 at 16:24 #304204Watching Murray v Nadal now and it’s nearing the end of the second set, but I have to say it’s been an absolute masterclass in ball-striking by Nadal.
I don’t think Murray’s won more than a couple of points when there’s been a long rally – Nadal sends him all over the place

Credit to Murray to still be in this, he’s only lost one service game and it’s looking like a tie-breaker in the second set. He really needs Rafa’s game to dip a little though if he is to have a chance of winning.
