With just five weeks until the March meeting, it’s time to see if you can predict what will happen to Closutton’s finest. It’s time to get your thinking caps on…
-This competition covers all 28 races at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
-This is about which horses run in which races, not winners.
-You can nominate up to three horses trained by WPM in each race.
-Each horse can only be nominated once.
-Any horse nominated twice will only be counted in its first nominated race.
-Each horse that runs in its correctly nominated race is worth one point.
-In each of the 24 races in which Paul Townend can ride, the letters PT must be put after the name of the horse you think the stable’s retained jockey will ride.
-Each correct PT selection will be worth an additional two points.
-Entries close at 23:59 on Wednesday 8th March, before the first of the five-day entries are made.
The winner will get their choice of Starmix or Hobnobs.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 23, 2023 at 15:28 #1636693I’ve decided to tweak the scoring system slightly, having thought about it a bit more.
A correct selection: 2pts
A correct PT selection: 3pts (so the PT bonus is, in effect, only one point now)
A wrong selection (i.e. a horse nominated for a race but doesn’t run in that race): -1ptThis means that the following original rules are no longer valid:
-Each horse can only be nominated once.
-Any horse nominated twice will only be counted in its first nominated race.
A reminder that entries close at 23:59 on Wednesday 8th March.
February 28, 2023 at 09:00 #1637276Gladders…my crystal ball has just shattered into 1 million pieces.
I’m not too sure I could even name 24 Willie Mullins horses
now if it were Charlie Appleby’s yard I’d probably know them all by heart but that’s just me.Whoever steps up first in this competition will probably give everyone else a heads up on what races Willie’s horses are running in and entries might follow a pattern from there onwards, but I could be wrong.
Love the concept of the comp but could it not be make a bit simpler by just naming 24 Willie Mullins horses and get points for all those who win or place in a race throughout the Festival say 4 points for a winner down to 1point for 4th place in big races. I’m sure he has a few dark horses tucked away that could spring surprises…just a thought before kick off.

I love the idea of this competition but being useless at AP anyway I might as well collect my wooden spoon now.
Best of luck.
Jac

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.February 28, 2023 at 13:39 #1637298Jac- if you look on the Racing Post website, you’ll see all the entries right now. Contestants just have to enter the three (or fewer) who they think will run, and select which one Townend will ride. There’ll be loads of preview shows on YouTube and newspaper articles over the next week to help you sort the wheat from the chaff.
Rummy- if you want. I’ll send the winner their choice.
February 28, 2023 at 16:27 #1637315Would it be an idea to pm your the selections, Gladders?
Then you can copy them up after the deadline

February 28, 2023 at 16:32 #1637317That’s fine, Nathan- whatever suits you.
Just thought- we may need tiebreak rules in case two (or more) people end up level on points.
Tie breaker one: Most correct PT selections that actually win their race
Tie breaker two: Fewest incorrect nominationsFebruary 28, 2023 at 16:35 #1637318Thanks pal,
just don’t want that Ian Davies being a copycat
He’s knows I’ve got the inside info on where Willie runs them..

I’ll take a look through the RP website.

Chezza feels this is an important question from Neil, one which needed to be asked, and which merits a reply.
Chezza’s very participation may hinge on a positive answer.

Double packet. Dark Chocolate for the grown ups.

Anyway I think I’ll give it a go (for fun) don’t expect to be correct with any of my selections, but by some miracle I do win it, would like to donate my prize to Chezza.

Neil also has Chezza bang to rights – Chezza likes milk chocolate, Chezza doesn’t like dark chocolate, Chezza never has been – and never will be – a grown up.
