Does anybody else find William Buick incredibly weak in a finish, and also a poor judge of pace? Falling Petals (Chelmsford, Wednesday) and Swiss Again (Lingfield, today) are two recent examples.
Charlie Appleby and Adam Kirky are 54-155 35%, compared with 40-167 24% Buick (since 2011).
I might be pocket talking, but I have no doubt Kirby would have put the two races I have cited to bed.
For me Buick is the same as Richard Hills was when riding for Hamdan – seems totally unaware of when a horse is well backed, and unless it is going to win on the bridle gives up.

Would it make a difference if the horse wasn’t well backed?

Did you see the race which was run in Ascot five minutes ago? Think that was the proof that you are wrong!
May 8, 2015 at 19:26 #952253He’s outridden Hughesie in a few finishes to my memory

Horses and jockeys!!
He rode a fine race and finish in the last at Ascot tonight.May 8, 2015 at 20:20 #952819Ivanjica,
I have found over the years that jockeys and trainers are not interested at all what the punter thinks and whether a horse as been backed or not. They forget that without us the sport would not exist as it does today.
Does that make a difference? Who knows. Possibly
It is just something you have to accept, more so I find with flat racing where there is so much more money involved. Hence I stick to the jumps, where I think jockeys and trainers try more
Personally I have always found Buick weak in a finish a poor judge of pace and vastly over rated. However when you look at what is around, maybe he is not that bad.
Some will agree,others disagree.
C’est la vieMay 8, 2015 at 22:04 #953689Sorry for the stuck record but as far as I am concerned the current bunch of Flat jockeys are unreliable. They also come across as that much more arrogant than the Jump boys. Same goes for the trainers.
Yes, there are a mass of bridle merchants out there. Can you really say Buick is any worse than the likes of Hughes and Dettori? Not sure that any of them give two hoots about punters.
