Fair enough if that’s how you see it reet, but I’d be of the opinion that it’s a lot easier to get "done for toe" when you’re cream crackered!

That being said, watching the Sefton again makes me a bit worried about the definite possibility of Lough Derg setting an equally searching gallop tomorrow. If that happens, your ultimate conclusion may well be right unless Richie McGrath is switched on.

    Looks like he didn’t stay.

His jumping wasn’t very fluent either today.

Won’t be winning a Wolrd Hurdle this year I’m afraid.

Just simply not good enough in my opinion.

Looking (or having) to be hard at work from a long way out shouldn’t automatically put anyone off a horse (how many times has Inglis Drever won "ugly", for example?), but WM never looked to be finding quite enough of a response to the jockey’s many urgings there.

He wasn’t especially high up my list of World Hurdle aspirants as it was. He’s not anywhere on it now.

He actually travelled better during the race than he has done at times for McCoy. Yes, he came under pressure some way out but that’s normal for him – he just never picked up and never looked like picking up. You can hardly say that the jockey was easy on him either. Absolutely no excuse for this defeat and it puts him way out of the picture for the Wolrd Hurdle in my opinion.

Decent effort by Albertas Run however Fist – what do you think?

I’ll need to wait and see times etc, but it looks very much to me as though Wichita Lineman ran way below even his novice form, suggesting something may be amiss- there’s no way Kasbah Bliss would outstay him IMO. Were it not for Alberta’s Run (great ride there from Ruby BTW) I’d have considered poor stable form, with Butler’s Cabin also looking very slow.

Either way, he cannot be trusted for the World Hurdle on that basis. Inglis Drever must surely be the certainty of the festival now, he’s got every concievable rival well and truly tucked away.

I think the problems with Butler’s Cabin are deeper-seated – to me he still looks to be bearing some lasting ill effect from his sapping efforts in victory twice last Spring.

I can see him take a little walk in the market after today, and with Bewley’s Berry also running below par the top of the National betting looks a little shorter of credible propositions than it did a few hours ago.

Something else will emerge to stake a claim in the next few weeks, of course it will, but I’m beginning to think taking the antepost 25-1 about Character Building before that one gets nudged in a little almost by default might not be the worst idea ever.

Perhaps you’re right GC, he hasn’t really travelled in any of his races this season. I was also bitterly disappointed in Bewley’s Berry today, could not see an explanation for that one at all. Let’s just hope he has a deep-rooted phobia of Haydock, as he ran a shocker in the Red Square last year as well.

Interesting you should mention Character Building, as Totesports’ representative on the BBC today mentioned that he was the one they were most scared of, even though he started the afternoon around 8th in the market. I have to say I agree, thought the 42 available before the weights came out was a steal given his profile, he’s got Grand National written all over him IMO. My only worry is that John Quinn seems determined to run him at Cheltenham.

He wouldn’t be the only one to have cultivated a dislike of Haydock’s new fences – there are a few humans on here that can’t abide them either.

Can’t get my head round WL at all Mike I think on his past form he’s much better than that. Had he been beaten 2 lengths I might have said he has no chance at Cheltenham. Not making excuses for him but he has never hung as badly as that before and may have been feeling something………….right now I have no idea.

Considering Alberts Run was expected to run well and actually won that’s a big feather in his cap.
I thought he took a long time to get to Battlecry and jumping was the difference between him and the second. He will certainly like the trip at Cheltenham and has come to hand at the perfect time. Don’t think Jonjo can do much more than hope he comes out of the race well and that he improves for it.
8/1 joints seems a bit strange not unless one thinks Air Force One will jump better at Cheltenham but my feeling is he looked like an accident waiting to happen. However I can’t believe these two are the best 3 mile novices around even although AR keeps on winning. Something Like Nevada Royale or The Irish mare if she comes over might do them…….I think it will be about the hardest race to work out at Cheltenham

Just got in from Haydock and was very dissapointed in the run of Wichita Lineman he just seems to have lost the plot like BJK.

I think a change of stable is needed with him to freshen him up or even take him out for a days hunting as he seems to be a different horse.

Accordello ran well to get some black type and may get a small race somewhere

Don’t forget this is a lazy horse and as such would be difficult to get fit after a lay off. Though was disappointing even so. Blinkers might work.

Your all missing the point – He’s never been good enough. His form is suspect and has been shown up now.
