Must have watched that film 100 times, and passed the pleasure to my daughter when she was a bairn (she insisted on her eyes being covered during Captain Hollys monologue mind!). The hilarious ‘Keehar’ was an institution of my family. Happy memories of a happy time.

    I digress…….

I first read the book in my early teens, actually nowadays live very close to where it was all set and am a devotee.

    I also digress….

I also read the book as a teen, and my daughter has read it too. She didn’t need too much encouragement, she is a bookworm like her old man, and his father, and his. Fortunately the alcoholism appears to have passed her by.

We are devotee’s too. A marvellous novel, and a marvellous film. I was thinking of an eventual list of ‘bete noir’, to go against your list of Dictators. I was stuck on Blackavar, Bigwig, or Hazel, for Woundwort, and needed to give it considerably more thought. To be continued ID my good man. :mail:

Aye but Blackavar had some balls ID, and was a true fearless man (rabbit) of conviction. One man (rabbit) against a world he didn’t believe in, wouldn’t budge for what he believed in, not even to save himself great pain or death. A true principled hero.

Looking at the form, Genghis Khan would certainly appear to be the most successful sire. He ‘stood’ multiple times with a wide array of mares and many millions of people worldwide alive today are said to be descended from him.

    Ferdinand & Imelda Marcos (coupled)

Imelda is likely to need to be reshod before the start

This must be the best thread ever. Can’t really add to it because the current government are democratically elected* [so I can’t nominate them] except to point out that Genghis is actually pronounced Chingis although you all probably knew that anyway. I only know that because my favourite BBC Sounds at the moment is the You’re Dead to Me about Genghis Khan. The only bit of it I ever remember [he did a lot of things and it’s all a bit complicated] is how to pronounce his name.
    *albeit not by me

Moehat, good to hear someone else listens to You’re Dead To Me. Like you, the one thing that particularly stuck with me from the Genghis Khan episode was how to pronounce his name! I think I need to listen to it again…

“This must be the best thread ever.”

    So proud.

Though tbf I’m just the OP and there are some really witty people on TRF nowadays and I have been loving their contributions to this thread.

For anyone who has been inspired by this thread and wishes to emulate one of our heroes, Netflix have brought out a timely release of a series called ‘How to Become a Tyrant’.

I’ve not had a chance to watch it yet but it Episode Two apparently focuses on one Saddam Hussein who surely deserves a place somewhere near the top of the betting. How he has been missed until now I don’t know. We should all hang our heads in shame (if they haven’t already been cut off).
