The best L’Ami can hope for is a place.. If the principals stand up I can;t see that happening either. The Aon was a false race which I don’t think is worth paying much attention to..
February 27, 2007 at 12:34 #43517Hello everyone, does anyone know whether Halcon Genelardais is definitely planning to race in the Gold cup? Thanks..

I believe the plan is to run in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter which is the day after the Gold Cup I think.
February 27, 2007 at 13:17 #43519Ahhh right, thanks..
February 27, 2007 at 22:38 #43521I agree with JohnJ. Expect Kauto Star’s jumping will be tested to breaking point. The Gold Cup always has a big field and is run at a proper racing pace. Under those conditions I don’t think Kauto’s jumping will stand the test. In last years Champion Chase he only got over 2 fences.
My idea of the winner is War Of Attrition. Will arrive fresh and we know he can handle the fences, the course, the race.
It’s a great pity Kicking King won’t be there. I’d love to see the him taking on War Of Attrition.
February 28, 2007 at 00:04 #43522Looking again at Kauto Star’s fall in the Queen Mother, the horse just walked right through the fence. Indeed, the reason it gives favourite backers such scares is because it walks right through the fences. If it jumps them I don’t see a problem, but it has to respect them and jump them. When it is in a horse’s make-up to walk through the odd fence can you train that out of them?
February 28, 2007 at 07:12 #43524WOA for me. He’s done it before and since when has a horse with a jumping problem (KS) won a Gold Cup? Actually that’s an interesting question. Has a horse that’s been a dodgy jumper won the Gold Cup?
February 28, 2007 at 09:23 #43525Mr Mulligan wasn’t the greatest jumper in the world, but I seem to remember that he jumped pretty well on the day.
March 1, 2007 at 15:36 #43527Kauto Star.
You can sit down all day and try and pick holes in his form and talk about his jumping but realistically if he stands up and i’ve no reason to think otherwise he will win. I do find it strange though that not many people have mentioned War of Attrition, who’ll be favoured more by quicker ground than he has had in Ireland this season. Sadly though even he is running for second place.
March 1, 2007 at 17:10 #43528I fancy Neptune Collognes e.w mainly because of his performance in the letheby and christopher he was going well untill 3 out where he fell and although i still think Exotic Dancer would have won i think he would have beaten our vic and finished a close second.
March 2, 2007 at 00:27 #43529A bit off topic, but was looking through the GC entries and noticed Idle Talk is now trained by Donald McCain and owned by Trevor Hemmings. When did that happen then (apologies, I’ve had my eye off the ball somewhat recently).
March 2, 2007 at 00:38 #43531Last weel/10 days or so Alderbrook. If Hemmings was after a National type, I think he’s invested well, though whether he may be a few piunds too higfh in the weights would be my concern.
March 2, 2007 at 00:40 #43532Cheers DJ. Wouldn’t disagree with that assessment.
March 2, 2007 at 00:43 #43533You’ve done well to understand it Alderbrook.
What an atrocious round of spelling for that post. I blame the Big 6 (if Prufrock still reads here).
March 2, 2007 at 00:59 #43535DJ,
Next Tuesday night apparently is the trip up to the ‘Fax. Is it still grim up north?
March 2, 2007 at 01:06 #43536Tis still very grim.
March 4, 2007 at 15:17 #43537With War Of Attrition out i change my vote to Beef Or Salmon with kauto star finishing second Neptune Collognes third and exotic Dancer 4th
