What I am doing now breeding colour genes in to Thoroughbreds as its A fun and B new and C exciting and its never been done before and I like to do new things that are adventurous as this would stop ringers instantly as you can not have two identical marked coloured horses.August 11, 2010 at 13:13 #312216Think they might sell stuff at Appleby Fair that might get round the problem of not changing a horses identity! I agree about the smell of hoof oil..but for me when they say weighed in weighed in as well [hope they never change that one].

Put more emphasis on breeding stayers for the flat by framing 12 to 16 furlong plus all age Group races to encourage more top grade horses to be kept in training thereby engaging the wider public.August 12, 2010 at 21:38 #312503Serial question-answerers (guilty as charged!) might also like to visit this TRF thread from last year, which contained all the questions asked in the

August 14, 2010 at 01:32 #312683I’ll answer flat only as we’re in the middle of the flat season. Might do a jumps one later in the year.
Favourite Racecourse?
I think all racecourses have their own individuality which makes them special in their own right. For that reason its a difficult question to answer.
Favourite Race?
The Epsom Derby. There will always be something extra special about that particular day in the calendar whether or not it throws up a superstar in any gven year.
What sort of races do you prefer?
Group races between seven furlongs and two miles.
Favourite Ever Jockey?
I think we have some really good current jockeys. Tom Queally, William Buick, Frankie Dettori, Hayley Turner are particular jockeys I trust while the likes of Richard Hughes, Kieran Fallon are unquestionable class acts. Ryan Moore rarely does me any favours when my hard earned is on him though he did give Strawberrydaiquiri a particularly good ride at Ascot. I can’t really pick a favourite.
Favourite Ever Horse?
Nostalgia is always nice but I prefer to concentrate on the present. My favourite horse at the moment would probably be Harbinger, he displayed the best individual performance I’ve ever seen in the King George and I got 4/1 about him so that helps. Such a shame his career had to be cut short.
What you like about racing?
the variety, the variation in track / ground and the fact that its more "working man" than sports like football who’s participants are ridiculously paid. The vast majority of racing that we take note of happens in the UK if its not here its France or Ireland and I love that, much more cosy and much less flamboyant.
What you dont like about racing?
The all weather though I do think it has its place in the winter and summer jumping simply because I like seasons and the summer should be for the flat and the winter for the jumps. The current jumps "seasons" are a joke. End jump racing in May begin it again in October.
Also clerks watering the course to "ensure good ground" etc. LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!!!!Favourite ever Owner?
Prince khalid Abdullah. Never a problem with him, a quiet unassuming man that has given so much to British racing and unlike Sheikh Mohammed hasn’t tried to change the face of racing. I have all the time in the world for Prince Khalid and he deserves all the success he gets. He names his horses really well too.
Favourite ever Trainer?
Has to be Henry "The Legend" Cecil.
Favourite type of bet(if you do)?
Win singles.
Favourite Ever Race Commentator?
Richard Hoiles is as good as there is, Simon Holt top class also. There is always something special about listening to an old Peter O’Sullevan commentary.
Favourite Other Sports?
Boxing, Tennis.
Best Race ever seen?
Harbinger’s King George will ever last in my memory. Ok it wasn’t the greatest race in terms of competitiveness or edge of the seat stuff but that performance just blew my mind. I expected him to win but not the way he did. If you watch the race again watch when Peslier gives him a tap he finds about three lengths in about three strides, incredible.
If you could improve racing and the racing experience by doing one thing what would it be?
cheaper admission prices.

I’ve done a scientific experiment on this in the past, and Chocolate Hob Nobs are defintely the favourite biscuit of grey squirrels.
They are not as keen on macaroons as one would have first thought.
