Maybe Royal Ascot would even consider creating a new Group 1 named after her. It would be the least you could expect.
There also should be a race around Christmas with her name in it or at least on April 21st.
What do you think?
September 8, 2022 at 20:57 #1613861I think the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes should be renamed and called the, err, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
Sorry, I’m not handling TRF – and the world – going full on Daily Mail very well tbh.
Our beleaguered economy needs to be calling things off like it needs a hole in the head at the moment.
I had four good bets lined up for tomorrow too!
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mind The Queen, but I can’t get back to normal fast enough and I hope Saturday’s racing goes ahead.
ITV Racing can have lots of footage of her best horses – check out my clip of Dunfermline flooring the mighty Alleged in The Lounge.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 8, 2022 at 20:58 #1613862There already is a race named after her at the October meeting at Ascot.
Maybe they could rename that race the King Charles III and make the Prince of Wales Stakes the new Queen Elizabeth II Stakes instead?
September 8, 2022 at 21:08 #1613863As has been said, there is already a Group 1 in Elizabeth II’s name, and there are plenty of other things named after her already too.
But a race at Royal Ascot would seem fitting given that she was both Royal and passionate about her racing.
September 8, 2022 at 21:19 #1613864I would just like to point out that there are numerous other deceased monarchs that have just one race named after them, if they have a race at all.
My all-time favourite monarch is Richard III btw.

I have no desire to see such races springing up all over the place though.
September 8, 2022 at 21:32 #1613867As sad as it is life does, or at least should, go on. I can’t speak for her but I don’t imagine she’d want too much racing cancelled in her honour. Anything more than a day is overkill. I’d argue a day is overkill but it’s happened now.
September 8, 2022 at 21:45 #1613872As stated on the other thread, while I never want to see racing cancelled, if it has to happen a Racing League fixture is an outstanding choice to get the chop.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.September 9, 2022 at 11:19 #1613962Why would it change?
The Queen wasn’t the only monarch with an association with racing.
I’d prefer Republic Ascot personally with an opening day, highlighting –
The Abdication Stakes
The Abolition StakesAnd the feature event
The Oliver Cromwell Handicap
But my guess is Royal Ascot will outlive us all.

September 9, 2022 at 14:31 #1613988Or a full scottish breakfast even. Cant believe how split the population is on sport being cancelled. Not a royalist in tbe slightest but she was the last great petson around and deserves the utmost respect. In a few years i can see the monarchy being gradually eased out of influence as she isnt there anymore.
September 9, 2022 at 14:46 #1613993I think the split in sporting cancellations comes down to the current climate. I myself have had quite a lot go wrong the past couple of months which has only been amplified by the cost of living crisis, I’ve been pretty depressed every day being completely honest and my only escapism is sport, the fact that I can’t even take my mind off all the stuff I’ve got going on and instead am being forced to be even more depressed – well it’s just hard to stomach.
I completely understand the notion of the cancellations and maybe I’m just being selfish but my word I can’t imagine the Queen would want people who are struggling to be hit even harder.

Nothing better – especially if served Al fresco with that accompanying atmospheric drizzle.
September 9, 2022 at 15:02 #1614000Tell you what I was in St. Andrews for a wedding last year and went to a restaurant (about £18 per main) that was unbelievable, shared a few dishes and had Lamb, Steak and Salmon and all three were better than anything I’ve had in England.
September 9, 2022 at 15:17 #1614005Seeing as we have the King George VI Chase at Christmas, why not the Queen Elizabeth II Hurdle to replace the Christmas Hurdle?
As for sports cancellations, I do think both racing & football have got it wrong – and almost too keen to be seen to do the right thing.
September 9, 2022 at 15:20 #1614006While Ben remembers
stuffing his face
with freshly caught salmon
plus a ewe and a cow
snatched in shock from
a nearby field and slain then torched enflamme at
the table side.
Let’s face it
in another way
and remember
Our late Queen
much preferred it
to London and Windsor ! - AuthorPosts
