Unfortunately I’ve also had a trip to this meeting pencilled in for several weeks.
Shall I phone ahead to warn them?
September 27, 2006 at 11:25 #103067Nah let’s surprise them.
September 27, 2006 at 15:57 #103068Went to Bath and Jaufrette was well beaten as expected over a trip some way short of what she’d prefer and Jayer Gilles ran flat too :(
Bath’s a really nice track though and one I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again (twice in a month is enough for now though).
I had my conkers on Synonymy in Jayer Gilles’ race, thinking the 3yo allowance would make all the difference (which it didn’t come too far off doing), so neither of us emerge from Monday’s card dead happy.
What a shame nobody’s thought to put some portable fences around Bath – with that stiff finish it would increase the options on the calendar for slowpokes no end. Need to get the situation regarding the watering system, i.e. the total lack of, sorted out first, though.

September 28, 2006 at 13:24 #103070Looks like the following is on the cards.
7th October – Chepstow (definate)
18th October – Worcester (probable)
25th October – Cheltenham (definate).
Looking forward to the jumping starting again in earnest now!

September 30, 2006 at 09:43 #103072a possibility of Leicester on tuesday, a maybe, prob won’t go tho. Look out for me at Newbury during the NH season, especially saturdays……..oh yeah you don’t know what i look like thank god!!
Prob go to Chelters Festival, otherwise no definites yet!!
September 30, 2006 at 09:49 #103073Synonymy ran well Jeremy just caught out by a better handicapped horse. Always look for the 3yos in the staying handicaps as the step up in trip often does them the world of good.
Next meeting will probably be Cheltenham’s Open or the North-West Masters of Drinking and Racing Festival at Haydock and Aintree.
Becher Chase Day – best racing views anywhere.
October 1, 2006 at 18:03 #103074Very tempted by Selkirk Lady in the 4.40 at Ponty tomorrow on the same premise, Martin, although in the end I couldn’t quite look enough beyond Sudden Impulse to recommend Walter Swinburn’s 3yo over Alan Brown’s charge, especially with there likely to be a bit of dig underfoot.
If they finish in the opposite order you’ll hear the screams from here.

October 1, 2006 at 18:05 #103075I’m sending PMs to those of you who said you’ll probably be at Towcester on Wednesday in the hope of perhaps meeting up and cheering the slowboats up the hill – as long as my car walks its MOT tomorrow I’m a definite runner.

But of course, where else, o Bangor member! Went to this corresponding meeting last year, I think – wasn’t it the one with Iris’s Gift versus Montgermont versus Stan in a pretty decent novices’ chase for the course?

October 3, 2006 at 11:28 #103080Although speculatively declared, Zoz is an uncertain runner for Towcester tomorrow.
Subject to vet’s certificate.

October 3, 2006 at 14:41 #103081Yes Jeremy, it was where Iris’s Gift came with Great Expectations, and as the season progressed ended up with Hard Times!
What do you mean a decent race for the course, Bangor does have its moments you know!!! I really shouldn’t stand for this, but I guess I’ll have to as Bangor doesn’t have one!!!
Hihihihihihi, nice line! Of course Bangor has its moments, but perhaps uncommonly for the course this was a novice chase in which the first four home all looked like they’d be extremely useful, and indeed they all now covet chasing marks between 122 and147.
THAT, I suspect, is what I was driving at, rather than any implied belittling of the course’s other fare. I wouldn’t go to the place if I didn’t like what it had to offer!
Random name-dropping: seen skulking around that the parade ring for all that meeting was Nathan Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy. Wasn’t in the most talkative of moods, but maybe he was trying to concentrate on the horses instead of divs like me.
