What do you think the best race of the Festival will be? I will ask the same question after the Festival too by the way, as I nearly always get it wrong (WOA v Brave Inca’s Supreme Novices was way under-rated by me!).
I expect a lot of votes for the Champion Hurdle, but often the result of a race subsequently changes peoples minds – eg last years Champion Chase.
What do you think?
March 9, 2007 at 01:12 #44844BTW – I voted for the Ryanair.
Wonder what race One Man, Florida Pearl etc would have gone for in their days….
March 9, 2007 at 01:42 #44846I’m going Gold Cup. I forsee KS 6 lengths clear as the last approaches with BOS, The Listener and Exotic Dancer fighting for second. KS blunders the last after jumping foot perfect all the way round. Ruby stays onboard, defying the laws of gravity only to see the hill infront of him. All 4 horses head to the line together…… race of the meet definetly

March 9, 2007 at 07:06 #44847For me it’ll be the Champion Hurdle, as I’d love HE to do it again. The Gold Cup will obviously be exciting, but to be honest you can never tell. The festival always springs surprises in almost every race. You can’t predict a single thing.
March 9, 2007 at 08:12 #44848BOS might be half way down the hill by the time that 3 are approaching the last fence.

I have gone for the Trimph.
One of the best races in last years festival.
This year looks another corker…
March 9, 2007 at 08:39 #44851County Hurdle for me cos it’s over then and we can look forward to the Flat! :o
Ha Ha – only jokin – Champion Hurdle for me. Prob 3 or 4 jumping the last together with a monumental battle to the line. Can’t wait.
March 9, 2007 at 08:53 #44853Monet’s Garden making all in the Champion Chase will be a sight to savour.
I have a dream – c’mon Nicky Richards you know it makes sense
March 9, 2007 at 09:58 #44857Its a pity we cant see harchibald putting his best foot foward because there would be absolutely no doubth but we would have something like the repeat of the race two years ago.
FOr those with short memories….classic stuff.

March 9, 2007 at 22:07 #44858I seem to have rather jinxed the Champion Hurdle with this thread.
March 9, 2007 at 22:12 #44862Usually you will hear me saying the champion hurdle or Arkle, but this year i think the Champion Chase will be a fantastic race what more could you want: Voy Pour Ustedes, Well Chief, Nickname and Newmill fighting it out. I don’t think it will be as easy for Well Chief as many think.

<br>Oh come on,Stormont…….. the only fight will be who gets 2nd.;)
March 11, 2007 at 20:10 #44868I’d like to see Exotic Dancer and The Listener out-stay KS and grind him down up the hill!! (I have both e/w)!
March 11, 2007 at 21:25 #44871Got to say the Supreme Novices and hopefully my mind won’t have changed come 2.10 on Tuesday!
(No chance, she’s home and hosed….)

(although I’m slightly concerned that your nomination was not pooled from either the four-miler, cross-country race or Foxhunters…. In my little world, every other achievement over the four days will pale in significance if the wonderful Spotthedifference can land his race once again at 14. Wonderful, wonderful old stick.)

March 12, 2007 at 19:37 #44873Mr. Column, I couldn’t agree more! He’s a star anyway and has nothing to prove to anyone but if he can win this again, there won’t be a dry eye in the house :) I so hope he does it!
March 15, 2007 at 21:30 #44874Not to be, alas – Mr Dow Jones has proven this season that you can still defy a career high or near-career high mark at 14 or 15, but then he operates at a far lower level than old Spotty does.
I’d like to see him train on, and the noises from Enda Bolger after the race seemed encouraging in that regard, although realistically his best chance of adding another Cheltenham cross-country race to his tally would probably now lie in the conditions’ event in November rather than any of the handicaps thereafter.
A gallant effort, all the same.
