4 runners at Kempton today, 3 ridden by his son and only 1 by stable jockey Brennan. Le Roi Max has been ridden every time by Brennan yet despite being at the meeting he is replaced apparently by STD.
The lad may be promising but simply isnt in the same league, and on Banjaxed Girl he was simply outridden by Barry Geraghty.
Puzzling and beyond me !November 22, 2010 at 19:29 #329286He has a claim which Brennan dosen’t. bit unfair to hint at nepotism

Hint when it is clearly evident?
November 23, 2010 at 10:25 #329376True Twister Junior has the claim, and is an extremely capable young jockey. But Brennen seems to be contantly having his nose rubbed in it. Time and time again; when two stable mates run in any race, it is the "stable jockey" on the one with least chance of winning.
At a West Berkshire Racing Club meeting, I once asked AP McCoy; whether he was ever given the ride on the one with least chance of winning, because that one is a more difficult ride, to maximise the stable’s chance in a race?
His answer: A definate, "No, I would always ride the one with best chance of winning".
If it was not for Imperial Commander and Khyber Kim, I’d imagine Paddy would be looking elsewhere.
Value Is EverythingNovember 23, 2010 at 10:37 #329378Not an issue at all, one was a conditional race and STD has ridden Banjaxed in her previous races so maybe they wanted a bit continuity despite him not being able to use his claim, the same applied to Mad Moose. Maybe the owners had some input, who knows?
There was little to choose between Pigeon Island or Little Josh on the book or in the betting before the race.
I’m sure Paddy Brennan realises he’s very lucky to have a stable jockeys job these days.November 23, 2010 at 10:42 #3293794 runners at Kempton today, 3 ridden by his son and only 1 by stable jockey Brennan. Puzzling and beyond me !Got to give apprentice jockeys a chance, eh?

Or maybe they just wanted a better price on Banjaxed?
Love to see that kind of trickery thwarted.
November 23, 2010 at 12:15 #329398NTD must be itching to get his son on Imperial Commander.
Does Brennan have a paid retainer?
November 23, 2010 at 14:32 #329420Think he might be in for a bit of a wait even if that’s actually the case, Deckster.
The Our Friends In The North syndicate was notably loyal to Antony Evans, sticking with him on Imperial Commander throughout the 2007-8 season even after he had lost the ride on pretty much everything else at Naunton (he had stopped riding in public before the gelding’s 2008-9 seasonal reappearance); and one of its number – it may well have been Ian Robinson, as it usually is – has already indicated at least once this term that Paddy Brennan will be accorded the same courtesy.

November 23, 2010 at 15:54 #329433Trainers more often than not get their own way eventually. If I was Brennan I wouldn’t be getting a mortgage on my retainer earnings anytime soon. Will be interesting to see what happens but by the time Sam rides out his claim Brennan may well be toast at Twisters.
November 23, 2010 at 21:09 #329478The young lad has impressed me so far and notable that his big race winners have been on horses ridden handy to the pace. Hello Bud and Little Josh were winners in races where arguably Paddy had just has much chance of being on the winner (ie Irish Raptor and Pigeon Island).
That said, I guess Paddy might be a little upset to have missed out on rides where there was only one contender from the yard in the race. I guess with STD’s (thats Sam Twiston Davies not Sexually Transmitted Diseases) suspensions looming then Paddy wont be too disheartened at getting the leg up on Little Josh!
Paddy always strikes me as having a good relationship with his boss so I cant imagine anything changing there in the course of the next few years.
