managed to see them on Jools Tuesday night, but caught the last song just now..arn’t they brilliant..I don’t know why I like them so much because I’ve never liked so called ‘world music’..there’s just something joyous about them [reminds me a bit of Abraxus, the first album I ever bought]….just got back from an indoor folk festival with [hurrah] morris dancing and Bellowhead…have been trying to see them live for ages, having heard that they were the best live folk band in the country, and they were wonderful; very theatrical, mixing folk with jazz, blue grass, colliery bands, reggae etc…my friends reggae/folk band Edward II is reforming so going to see them in a couple of weeks..a feast of folk….
October 26, 2008 at 21:44 #186636Thought Snow Patrol were amazing on jools holland the other week, the current single isnt really for me but the other two tunes were brilliant. Can see another good album on the cards from them.
Been getting back into Arcade Fire again lately (Funeral featuring prominently in my playlist lately), they must be due another album soon, and hopefully a tour with it.
I havent really clicked that well with the new Kings of leon album as much as I thought and overall I prefer their last album. Finally got MGMTs album this week though and loving it, have converted a few people to MGMT aswell.
October 26, 2008 at 22:25 #186644my daughter and her husband are going to see MGMT ar Rock City next month; interesting to see what they’re like live…don’t think Arcade Fire are doing much at the moment…would love to see them again after the debacle of their show at the Ice Stadium….I can’t go to see MGMT…too old to rock’n’roll, too young to die, me, but not too old to be the babysitter…[sigh]

I prefer their older stuff from the first two albums tbh…This is great to sing/slur along to when full of depressed cheer ….October 27, 2008 at 16:02 #186720BBC 4 have got a Neil Young night on Friday which I’m looking forward to;although Buffalo Springfield et al were the music of my youth I’ve got a lot of catching up to do with Neil Young, a brilliant musician and thoroughly decent guy…..
October 31, 2008 at 15:37 #187245Been listening to The Chemical Bros – Surface To Air. What a tune.
Heard it at Oxegen and V Festival and had never heard it before, thought it was a remix of the Enemy and been trying to get it since then, then realised it was off the push the button album d’oh.
If you havent heard it before it is absolutely epic.
November 9, 2008 at 20:44 #188936my daughter left the MGMT concert early the other night…said the album stuff was ok but they seem to be doing some prog rock stuff which wasn’t very good [other people left as well]…very taken with Fleet Foxes on Jools Holland show the other night…..

Unlike Amy Winehouse this is a Jazz singer who can sing.
November 11, 2008 at 01:24 #189118Sent the wife to Tesco’s yesterday to buy some food and drink and what does she bring home, the ‘NEW’ Boyzone CD, still playing the bloody thing now. I could of saved her some money as most of the songs are the same as the CD i brought about 12 years ago!!
Blackbeard to conquer the World
November 11, 2008 at 04:39 #189148I hate Tesco’s..I do, however find it impossible to go there and not buy loads of stuff that I didn’t intend to…last week at was a memory foam pillow, jar of manuka honey and Sweeney Todd…I resisted the honey and pillow but they are calling to me and I shall probably go back for them later this week..do not send a woman to Tescos for food and wine and be surprised when she comes back with strange, unwanted objects…..we can’t help it…..

No worries, Nathan – bring it along to Taunton on Thursday and we’ll get a couple of dozen thoroughbreds to trample on it.
It’s not quite the most superfluous repackaging of the last couple of weeks, though; given how many "Best Of"s of the band already exist, did the world really need the release of "The Sound of The Smiths" yesterday?

They will always divide opinion but I’m a fan.
Beautiful harmonies and plenty of creativityNovember 19, 2008 at 03:13 #190559Zome is trying to convince me to go to a gig after Towcester this Sunday in Oxford to see Ida Maria and someone called VV Brown
She wasn’t really selling it to me when she described the latter as "the one who does that blood song that sounds like the monster mash"
As my internet connection here is too tenuous to risk youtube, does anyone have the foggiest what the mare is on about?
Yours in somewhat worried anticipation….
