I see they are racing on the flat at Wetherby on Sunday.
When did it become a dual purpose course.April 21, 2015 at 19:18 #899774Next Sunday!
Decision made last year, four flat meetings this year.
Flat track details here:
http://www.wetherbyracing.co.uk/news/?item=151April 21, 2015 at 21:11 #899802Wonder which other flat tracks it’s similar to? Got some very tight bends and it’s a bit up and downy. Hope now it’s going posh they don’t close down the super cafe opposite the stands.
April 21, 2015 at 23:13 #899852I wondered if Aintree might have been tempted to try flat racing again. Good facilities, decent turf, and er a propensity to stage concerts
April 22, 2015 at 20:41 #902137Have they made the jumps portable or are they on the hurdle course?
April 23, 2015 at 08:54 #904552On Sunday the 26th, Wetherby start the first of their flat fixtures.
This might cause a problem for the speed handicappers as there is no standard times,
an unlike them, I am not going to wait 5 years till we have enough data to compile a set of
standard times. They is a temporary solution to this problem, look for a racecourse that is similar in circumference
etc, I used Navan as my model, and then calculate the slope (time per furlong) and the constant for
the racecourse.Slope = 13.247
Constant = -7.017With these figures run a linear prediction equation for the race distances at Wetherby and produce a set of standard times.
Wetherby standard times:
5f110y – 65.80
7f – 85.70
1m – 99.00
1m1f – 112.20
1m2f – 125.50
1m5f – 165.20
1m6f – 178.40
2m – 204.90
2m4f – 257.90Standard times:

April 23, 2015 at 11:48 #905389Might be worth watching which horses Graham Lee rides as he knows the tack inside out[and was very good riding there] unlike the flat jockeys.
April 23, 2015 at 13:12 #905446Judging by the 5 day decs this seems a popular move with connections.
Are there any flat tracks we would like to see add a jumps course folks?
April 23, 2015 at 14:20 #905608Yes Patriot, though it would be reinstatements rather than additions. I thought Nottingham had a fine NH track and when Windsor stood in for Ascot a few years ago, it worked very well. I am sure, however, that those courses would justify their decision robustly and I’d be amazed were they to ‘come to their senses’!
April 23, 2015 at 14:21 #905609Nottingham should never have got rid of it’s jumps course.

April 26, 2015 at 07:56 #920189Really not sure that Yorkshire really needs another flat course. I’d rather Wetherby focused on providing quality fare over the jumps.
The RP has a hyperbolic headline about bumper crowds expected, which turns out to mean much the same as the usual crowd for this meeting when it was over the sticks…
April 26, 2015 at 20:27 #921639Big priced and hard to find winners, just another day on the flat really. I agree with a previous comment why is another flat racing track needed in Yorkshire, today’s action looked nothing special to me and it was surely the novelty factor that brought the big number of runners. I’ll be surprised if flat racing is repeated after this year.
April 27, 2015 at 22:53 #923920Enjoyed the races from Wetherby, looks a fair course and believe it will prove popular. Good forward thinking from the course IMO.
April 27, 2015 at 23:00 #923922The lots of runners might be to do with easy access!!
I liked it admittedly I backed three nice winners (including one with Fallon on !!!! ) but it looked a nice fair straight with a good stiff finish which I like to see on a flat track !! -
