Talking of Goshen , I wonder what on earth has gone wrong there ?. I know it is off thread , so I will start another one
September 19, 2022 at 14:36 #1615168Reviving this thread about the shortest-priced ever winners and losers, Cork All Star mentioned in another thread that Presentandcounting won at 1/50 over hurdles at Sedgefield last month. I’m not aware of a shorter SP existing for a Jumps race, so possibly this is a record for that code. There has been shorter on the Flat though.
It would not be surprising to learn that there have been other recent occurrences of very short prices given the complaints about the lack of competitiveness of recent racing, especially over the Jumps.
September 19, 2022 at 14:40 #1615169I have a hazy (hence very possibly inaccurate!) memory of once being given a copy of the Guinness Book Of Records as a child by a well-meaning relative and reading that, due to the value of the lire in high-inflation Italy, a horse ridden by Lester Piggott once started at odds of 1/10,000 on the Italian Tote.
Apparently it was all out to win by a head.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 19, 2022 at 16:54 #1615182The parimutual limit as shown on the toteboard is 1/9, though payout can be as low as 5 cents on the dollar (1/20). No doubt if there was no limit we’d see shorter odds than even 1/50 in some of the 3- and 4-horse races that are ran too often at some tracks.
May 27, 2023 at 05:25 #1649185Will Whatawit (forecasted SP of 1/100) become an even shorter priced winner than most of those mentioned on this thread, after he runs in the 8.55 at Ffos Las tonight?
May 27, 2023 at 07:45 #1649190With no betting tax there’s nothing to stop it happening if market moves drive it that way.
Will anyone be offering 1.01 at Betfair at post time, what will the Betfair SP be?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 27, 2023 at 10:19 #1649211Only a 2 horse race, not even part of the place pot there. Can’t see the racegoers staying for this race. Really hope the outsider wins, but either way can’t see this being anything serious.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.May 27, 2023 at 11:52 #1649228Assuming he completes Johnthepostman will pick over £1k in prize money to put into the pot of £zero.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 27, 2023 at 12:38 #1649238What a pointless exercise, no idea why anyone would want to hang around in the middle of nowhere till 9 o’clock at night to watch a race that will be about as exciting and one sided as me having a tennis match against Roger Federer.
May 27, 2023 at 23:01 #1649382At least it was nice weather Richard. I see there were no odds given so presume not a betting heat.
I remember a few years ago having a day at Listowel with the last race being a two runner bumper with the Mullins hotpot been 1/10. I was in two minds whether to stay and watch. There was a little rain in the air but in the end I decided to watch without having a bet.
I’m glad I did, as even though the race was a total mis-match with the winning margin probably been exaggerated in the heavy going, the horse I was watching was none other than Annie Power.
May 28, 2023 at 13:48 #1649432Betfair SP was apparently 1.02 – 1/50 before commission.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 29, 2023 at 07:57 #1649507I watched the race for curiosity. The winner (favourite) won by over 30 lengths. However noticed lack of spectators. Compared to the opening race, were while not a lot of people watching the was a few.

Don't mess with mister in between.May 29, 2023 at 08:21 #1649508It was close to 9pm on a Saturday and Ffos Las does take quite a bit of time to reach even from Cardiff and Swansea. It is no surprise a lot of people decided they’d had enough after the 8.25 race.
Lots of people leave before the last race on any racecourse.
May 29, 2023 at 10:49 #1649516When I worked in a bookies someone had 6 grand on Calyx to win 1
Didn’t end well, he got injured in the race got beat and never made the track again
May 29, 2023 at 12:03 #1649521Thanks for highlighting this CAS. I believe Whatawit is the first horse to be returned (win or lose) at such short odds in Britain or Ireland for over 100 years.
A Racing Post article on Whatawit’s win mentions a couple of pieces of related trivia that are quite interesting (well, to me least!).
Whatawit’s jockey Sean Bowen has now ridden winners at both 1/100 and 200/1, the latter being Inspiratrice at Taunton last year.
Also last year, Golden Sixty managed to lose a Group 1 race at Sha Tin in Hong Kong at odds of 1/100. He came second by three quarters of a length.
August 20, 2023 at 12:23 #1660222The odds are almost unremarkable compared to a couple of other recent entries on this thread, but Red Danielle won a 3-runner race at Yarmouth on Wednesday at 1/33.
