Peeping Fawn hasn’t been retired though has she ?
She’s finished for the year but they intend to race her next year.
October 8, 2007 at 09:58 #118446"Before the Abbaye, Rishi told us Kingsgate Native was "a rookie, a bit like Lewis Hamilton taking on his Grand Prix elders" (Oh Jesus, give us a break). "
I cringed at this too. What is he on about, I asked myself.
One Rishi analogy too far methinks. He is also prone to asking the most banal questions during interviews. Seems a decent enough guy, but far too sure of himself in my opinion. Needs to improve on his over familiar interviewing style (ala Thommo), as well as ditching that silly inane and inappropriate (at times) cheesy grin.Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning

Now that was quality
October 8, 2007 at 10:28 #118453Good read Zorro.
One thing I would like to take issue with is this;
"Then, then…may they rot in hell forever, as the post-race debate grew almost as exciting as the race itself, the switch to a replay (sic) of a rugby league match played on Friday."
THAT Rugby League match played on Friday was one of the most important matches of the whole season. It was the Super League Final eliminator – basically, it was the sport’s equivelant of an FA Cup Semi Final, It was shown live on Sky Sports, but for anyone not having Sky Sports then they could tune in to the Beeb’s highlights at 4:10pm on Sunday.
Now, if you were one of those Rugby League fans tuning in, how would you have felt if the rugby had been dumped in favour of an extended racing coverage, just to cover the outcome of a stewards enquiry?
I watched the Arc on ATR so can’t comment on the BBC, but though it might of surprised a few people that they went to the rugby, it was the correct decision in my opinion. Maybe they should have gave you the option to continue watching the Arc coverage behind the red button – can anyone tell me if this was the case?

I agree KT, not sure the egg chasers would though

October 8, 2007 at 10:50 #118458But surely the main point Zorro was making (as opposed to the in my opinion equally valid argument that no-one gives a rat’s ass about Rugby League) was that the rugby in question was a replay. So why not replay it some other time or just push it back. Why trample over a showpiece live event? Better still, put the rugby on BBC1 next Saturday instead of the ballroom dancing.

I follow both! Given the choice of waiting an indefinite time for the outcome or going to the Rugby League highlights then I think they did the right thing.

If the post above yours is the one you’re replying to, surely it is redundant to use that facility.

Yo do sound miserable Colin
October 8, 2007 at 12:01 #118483Well, Balding did make a massive blunder in disclosing a little joke that Michael Tabor whispered in her ear.
A “massive blunder”? Why?
Is Fallon going to think that Tabor is glad he’s on trial?
I can’t see it.

Perhaps it should be pointed out that Zorro is a fan of Rugby League as well.

Perhaps it should be pointed out that Zorro is a fan of Rugby League as well.
And therefore, in the priviliged position of having Sky Sports and probably already knew the result of the Rugby, indeed, he may have even watched it.
But what about the people who don’t have Sky Sports, or perhaps the people who were at this VERY IMPORTANT game, maybe they wanted to watch the highlights of the game, just as much as racing enthusiasts wanted to know the outcome of the stewards enquiry.
The BBC probably took many things into consideration;
1) the outcome of the stewards enquiry could be obtained by many other means, text, internet, other racing channels etc – whereas the highlights of the SCHEDULED rugby, could not be seen anywhere else at that time.
2) the BBC would announce the result of the enquiry during the highlights of the rugby, meaning the rugby fans still get to see what they tuned in to see, and the racing fans get the result as soon as it is announced.
3) the outcome of the stewards enquiry could have taken an x amount of time, therefore any commitment from the BBC to stay with the racing would have threw the rest of the nights programmes way off schedule.
I personally think that the BBC made the correct decision in sticking to their schedule, and I believe they flashed up the result during the rugby as soon as it was announced. Let’s not forget, that the BBC had a full 25 minutes after the Arc to discuss the race, analyse it, go through the if’s and but’s of the Stewards Enquiry etc. It’s not the BBC’s fault, that the enquiry took a little longer than they would have liked, and at the time they went of air ,they had no indication as to when it would be concluded.

It’s an extraordinary leap of logic to make that assumption about zorro and not about other Rugby League fans!
FWIW I can understand the editorial decision given that the delay seemed as if it was going on indefinitely. But the outcome was called and the market suspended on Betfair, and there was still no mention some time later on the Beeb as to what had happened.
October 8, 2007 at 13:29 #118497Why didn’t you go on to quote the bit where I said,
"But what about the people who don’t have Sky Sports"
Amazing how people’s backs get up on here when someone has a different opinion to them. In my opinion, the BBC made the correct decision and were fully justified to do so.
Why should they spoil the viewing of not just rugby fans, but the fans of all the other programmes that would have been delayed or cancelled that night – just to stay and get a result of a stewards enquiry, especially when they didn’t know how long that enquiry would take. It would not have made sense, and the BBC made entirely the correct decision in my opinion.

October 8, 2007 at 13:32 #118498YES it was funny.NO Michael Tabor didnt want it repeated.I like the way Claire confidently lets her dark side rear its head.I also liked the way Willie put her straight when she wrongly observed that Authorized had settled nicely…’HE – IS – TUGGING’.When he’s right,by god he’s right!
