Spring Cup – ERTIJAAL 7/4 Coral £10.00 win
I cant see this horse winning a Guineas. I know he was drawn wide and it was his first run and should come on for it but the opposition wasn’t much to shout about.
Won returned £27.50

March 23, 2014 at 23:39 #473059With Aiden confused about where his horses are going to be running it’s the time to play my Guineas card. I watched Toormore walking around the paddock at Goodwood last year and fell in love with him, he beat Outstrip that day who went on to win at the Breeders cup. I was a little critical of Ertijaal’s performance yesterday but have watched it back a couple of times since and the horse missed the break a faction and went right, Hanagan then pushed him quite hard for a few strides and the horse took off and was soon contesting the lead with Hanagan pulling him back quite hard around the bend and he used up a fair bit of energy in those early exchanges but still showed plenty of speed which makes Toormore’s debut win over him at 6 furlongs look even better.
Everything the jockey and trainer said about Toormore was that this year he will be better, they looked after him with only the 3 races and he was described as a ‘big baby and a bit immature’. So hopfully he should improve this term and will start off in the Greenham and that race should tell us more the trouble with waiting for after that race to decided if he’s the one is by then War Command could be scratched for a French exchange and if Toormore wins the Greenham we could be looking at a much shorter price.2000 Guineas – TOORMORE 8/1 £5.00 Each/Way Betfred 1/4 odds 1,2,3

April 17, 2014 at 08:11 #475889Connections have said that today’s Craven is not the be all and end all for Toormore which is quite right but the Hannon’s have a tendency of getting one fit enough to win this race and will want to keep the unbeaten record intact. Looks on paper a 2 horse race with Be Ready the challenger.
If this was the final guineas field….
Then Toormore would be about 4/7 so at evens today I shall take a chance that he is sharp enough. The way he has finished his races in the past the mile will come as no problem and it would come as no surprise if he were to bounce out and gradually wind it up.Craven – TOORMORE Evens £10.00 Ladbrokes bog

April 17, 2014 at 11:40 #475914Toormore seems a big enough price at evens given his potential and what he has done already. Shifting Power was hardly electric yesterday and perhaps that, coupled with Night Of Thunder being put in his place, has derailed faith in the Hannon fire power.
There is money for Be Ready and it is no doubt on the back of True Story winning by a big margin in the Fielden. Who knows how strong that form will ultimately be and looking at Be Ready’s form I don’t see a really solid looking thread of performers in there. He’s open to any amount of improvement but I think he has a bit to find today.
I’ll chance a double Toormore and the weak in the market Ertijaal (Lingfield tomorrow)at 11/10 each if my bookie cooperates. Haggas is not firing fully but the 2000G entry should be good enough, even if not a realistic classic contender in my mind.
All the best Nathan.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 17, 2014 at 11:50 #475916Cheers Steve, Ertijaal is fully on my radar for tomorrow. He should improve for his first run as used up a lot of speed to get a good position from wide draw and when the jockey tried to slow him down around the bend the horse was pulling very hard yet quicken again around the final bend before clinging on, should not have the same problems to overcome tomorrow and 11/10 is a fair price considering he opponents don’t look to have anywhere near the form he has 2nd to Toormore on debut who was Champion 2 year old.
I’m hoping for a bright month weather wise as I want Toronado to run in the Lockinge, I notice he is 7/2 with racebets for the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and only soft ground would bring Olympic Glory into the equation for the race one would think so if Toormore wins today I might take a slice of the 7/2 Toronado.
Finally Steve, sorry to read about your sister Dorothy on the other thread, what a lovely looking girl.

April 17, 2014 at 21:37 #475969Finally Steve, sorry to read about your sister Dorothy on the other thread, what a lovely looking girl.
Thanks Nathan, looks like the horse has the same luck as my Sister!
Straight forward enough for Toormore without exciting my prospects for him to turn Kingman over but I covered Kingman at 9/1 and advised others to do likewise, so I’m in good shape really. If every even money shot obliged like Toormore today the bookies would be on skid row.
I think Kingman will go off odds on on the day. On course bookies can afford to lay Australia and I see little emerging from the pack. O’Brien has had 3 winners from his last 28 runners and is running out of time to turn the ship around.
Ertijaal to wait for tomorrow and he drifted out from 8/13 to 6/4 before coming back to the 11/10 I took. The stable could be in much better form but then that’s why he’s not odds on.
Good luck.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Interesting Mrs Haggas saying afterwards that Ertijaal didn’t have much of a winter break and expects him to get physically and mentally stronger as the season goes on.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 19, 2014 at 07:10 #476133Zurigha has won 2/2 at Kempton and the 9/4 on offer is tempting enough to part with a fiver. She is very capable of putting in good performances was 4th in the French guineas and her latest effort at the end of last term was probably her best with Moore in the saddle. Zibelina is the main danger but I’m liking my horses course form.

April 25, 2014 at 09:09 #476764Richard Hughes will add the jockeys title for a third successive year but at the odds and with the unknown regarding injury’s at any time will leave that alone.
If my empty space between the ears serves me right Hughes was a top price 4/9 when writing the above, 6/5 now having given Moore a head start of 22 winners. Hughes will play down his chances but has the taste of winning it now and would love to make it 3 in a row, I will be keeping a close eye on things and pounce when the odds and time is right.

May 1, 2014 at 20:47 #477516Thanks VTC, I’ve had a few already….

Here’s another one Shamkala for the Prix Diane. She’s better then Beauty Parlour this one.
Loved the way she won the other day and couldn’t resit parting with a fiver at 5/1 it would be rude not to. The other Alain de Royer-Dupre unbeaten filly Vazira is spoken as being on a different planet.Prix Diane – SHAMKALA 5/1 £5.00 Racebets

May 19, 2014 at 09:31 #479537I would imagine Hughes will jump ship and be riding Night of Thunder in the St James Palace stakes but I’m staying loyal to the middleham park horse at the odds. I’m not convinced by the going stated in the guineas and think it was softer than what the official reading was given. If the weather continues to shine and the ground firms up for Royal Ascot this could be a disadvantage to at least Kingman who Gosden says wont be risked on firm going. Toormore can be forgiven his guineas effort which came close after the craven and Hughes said he ran a bit flat. 14’s is too big.
St James Palace Stakes – TOORMORE 14/1 £5.00 Each/Way Racebets 1,2,3 places 1/4 odds (says 1/5 on oddschecker but they have gone 1/4 on website)
