Guess who has turned up in the Chester Vase
May 6, 2008 at 10:50 #161889I did notice that. Do you view him as similar to say Alexandrova who improved remarkably when stppped up in distance?
May 6, 2008 at 12:22 #161905what a mouthfull; why didn’t they call him just Kandinsky??
May 6, 2008 at 12:25 #161907His pedigree suggests 12f will be more his cup of tea, but Chester hardly looks his ideal track based on his juvenile form. Incidentally Murtagh prefers Vivaldi and the presence of David McCabe on Wassily Kandinsky suggests pacemaking is all this colt will be doing if he continues to run in pattern company this year.
May 8, 2008 at 10:44 #162285Is there any possibilty he is running today on his merits and not as a pacemaker?
If one could be sure of that, 33/1 is a very big price for his first try at 1m4.
May 8, 2008 at 10:53 #162286He’s worth an each-way punt anyway – should be in the first 4
May 8, 2008 at 11:03 #162287He does look interesting.
His early runs suggest that he should do well over a longer trip. He is stepping up 4f on what he has raced previously and i think that will suit him today.
May 8, 2008 at 11:49 #162290The two horses today from Ballydoyle look very much like sighters. If they win or finish close up I wouldn’t have thought it would say much for the race’s standard.
May 8, 2008 at 11:58 #162292Quite like Yahrab for an e/w at 33-1, the Dalakhani/Sadlers Wells cross has worked out well enough this year with Unwritten Rule and Chinese White and Yahrab would look to really want the step up to 1m4f and mustered some good ratings in 2yo 1m races. Clive Brittain foiled the bigger stables in this race 2 years ago with hattan and with Kerrin McEvoy in to ride this one I dont think theres any reason to suspect he cant do it again. I do quite like the look of the o’brien’s vivaldi and stoutes runner but no reason why Yahrab should be 33-1 in this race IMO.
May 8, 2008 at 12:03 #162293I agree Bully. Dalakhani has a good strike rate so far this year and Yahrab certainly has not been disgraced so far and the step up in trip should help. In a weakish looking vase, drawn well I think his price represents value. Although I don’t think he’ll win so with 3 places on offer that would be the bet.
May 8, 2008 at 12:24 #162296Interesting you should say that Gaz. I’ve told this story many a time before but I remember Sholokov who was stepping up in trip by four furlongs in the Irish Derby against a horse of the calibre of High Chapparal. Sholokov was only a pacemaker over a mile so anyone looking at the form book would have presumed stepping up an extra 4 furlongs would have given him no chance, but not me! I noticed ladbrokes were 500/1 in the morning and had £1e/w on which returned a handsome £101 when the horse got placed, not the first horse to get placed at big odds in that race I should add.
Ladbrokes are only going half the price of some bookmakers so that might mean something to some people, personally I think when they take any form of opinion on a horse, whether it be short with them or longer with them is some sort of a sign in itself, as it was with Sholokov that day.
Nice story and nice work Marb.
Tempted to have a couple of quid on the horse today, as i think the step up in trip will be good for him.
May 8, 2008 at 13:17 #162303Im pretty sure the way they are running on the top of the ground that chester is gd-fm today.
If it is indeed gd-fm, it would favour pampas cat, feared in flight and donegal (who needs to make huge improvement in all fairness)
May 8, 2008 at 13:51 #162317Woof woof.
May 8, 2008 at 14:35 #162327First time I’d seen him today, and having read this thread back I was curious to say the least.
What a monkey! He really does do whatever the hell he wants.
May 9, 2008 at 09:26 #162420well.. i think thats my antepost derby bet down the pan…
