I could not find a better word to use Bulwark. Second-string is incorrect, but there was no other word that fitted the description. Hence the quotation marks.
May 11, 2008 at 17:22 #162786Anyone still in the Washington Irving fan club.
May 11, 2008 at 17:39 #162791Never was in that particular fan club, but think WI may spring another Macarthur next year in the Ormonde.
May 12, 2008 at 08:56 #162887I got too greedy and could have laid him at 9s on betfair but thought, naa i will wait for it to go a little lower… oh silly me.
Is he running in the derby still?? or do i not even get a race for my money anymore??
May 12, 2008 at 09:04 #162890In the Macarthur mould? I think he will be better than Macarthur – but the early signs so a similar campaign where he will eventually come good down the track.
May 12, 2008 at 12:15 #162954the Macarthur mould?
That’s what you get when you leave the cake out in the rain.

May 12, 2008 at 15:51 #163016Kingdom Of Naples appears to be the forgotten horse of the O’Brien camp.
He won impressively on his only start as a juvenile over an inadequate trip on ground that was plenty fast enough. He’s by Sadler’s Wells and holds a St Leger entry, so the trip shouldn’t be a problem.
Am I missing something…
May 12, 2008 at 16:29 #163026Ive always had a good feeling about Kingdom Of Naples and backed him at 33s and 20s, he and curatin call are my two in the derby, but much more K.O.N. He’s now O’briens last man standing in the derby market, and he had one target trial (the dante) right from the start of the season, and has not had one other trial entry, which would hopefully suggest he is on target for the dante. It is very interesting that O’brien was able to say at the start of the season that this was his dante horse, and hasnt felt the need to give him a prep race like most of his others. Lets hope he’s still in the 48 hour decs.
Even despite being very impressive on debut, he faces an uphill struggle to win the dante, but lets face it if he does win he’ll be as good as home and hosed for the derby.

Steady on Bully…..
May 12, 2008 at 20:05 #163057Having seen the trials and them being pretty weak (derrinstown winner aside who is unlikely to turn up) I think that whatever wins the dante will be pretty sure to win at epsom. I do like thewayyouare but not sure if he is going for the prix du jockey club.
I do think though that Kingdom Of Naples has an almost impossible task winning such a strong looking dante on only his second career start, all im saying is that were he to win it would surely mark him out to be a very strong horse in a pretty weak looking field. For me, winning the dante is the hardest part.
May 12, 2008 at 22:47 #163087The best races Katiyra’s dam, Katiykha, won, Bulwark, were a couple of Listed races and the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes, but she was a cracker.
As you’ve perhaps read, she needed the race, and is expected to impove over further, as well. Oxx was very pleased with her performance.
She won that last race by a short head, carrying 9.9, and giving a stone to Gallery God, who was herself to improve by a stone and a half.

Don’t mention that to Bully!
…
Oh – his ears were already burning.

I have no Derby pick at this current stage. Probably due to the little knowledge of who is going where from the French and Irish yards.
It would be Tamayuz but unfortunately I don’t think he could settle at all heading down past Tattenham Corner. His race would be run there and then.
*Sigh* May just have to turn attention to APO’B and his current quintet for the winner?

who?
May 13, 2008 at 13:03 #163204A. P. O’Brien (thats who) stated in todays Racing Post that Kingdom is not going for the dante but the gallinule instead, where scorpion went in 05, this is fairly disappointing news as either he is just wanting to keep the horse unbeaten and thinks the dante may be too hard a test at present, the horse is behind schedule and may be one for the irish derby, or the horse is just made out of lead at this moment in time. Either way, not great.
May 13, 2008 at 13:28 #163214From memory O’Brien tends not to send many over to the Dante- Or he hasn’t for the last couple of years. I would suggest that Washington Irving was the big hope.
May 13, 2008 at 13:36 #163216Quote from the RP today – This is Heffernan talking:
“It was only his third run and he has disappointed three times – that’s the way it is. You would be saying he’d be more of a Leger type. He’s a late maturer and he’s probably not woken up to what’s going on yet.
“It’s hard to look at anything we have as outstanding at the moment,â€
