October 7, 2013 at 21:47 #454065USA Zenyatta.Rachel Alexander;pick your race.I suggest kentucky oaks
Australia Black Caviar;Take your pick.
newmarket Homecoming Queen. One Thousand Guineas.Actually ran away from the field, never headed.
cheltenham Dawn Run Gold Cup.
Aintree Nickle Coin.October 7, 2013 at 21:57 #454067Sorry,sorry,sorry.
Surely Moonlight Cloud on Arc Day 2013.Never saw anything like it since.October 7, 2013 at 23:26 #454074I would without doubt put treve in my top 3 female performance list – considering the field she beat.
There are so many racehorses and performances to compare that it is so hard to say which is superior. Everyone has there favourite.
Moonlight Cloud’s turn of foot yesterday was electric, and considering how far back she was just emphasises her class. It’s just a shame she doesn’t stay 1m2f/1m4f. Now that would be a sight to see!
My favourite female performance would be one of Goldikova. Either the queen anne or one of the breeders cup mile’s. The tenacity and will to win from her was just second to none. You got your money’s worth with her!

Have the Japanese never heard of a pacemaker?Pacemakers are probably outlawed in Japan like they should be everywhere.

Surely Moonlight Cloud on Arc Day 2013.Never saw anything like it since. The same horse that Black Caviar beat with torn chest muscles and crook suspensorys and she hardly gets a mention.

I don’t know how you could regulate that. Pretty easy for an owner to enter two horses, one that’s a certified front-runner and one that needs a pace to run at, and claim that both horses are entered to win the race – and going as fast as possible until the horse tires *is* running on its merits, even if those merits aren’t likely to get a win.
Outside of Europe however most horses with Orfevre’s running style wouldn’t need a pacemaker, since the field doesn’t dawdle for 2/3 of the race. In any case a truly great racehorse doesn’t need another horse to do the "work" for them, since they ought to be able to adapt their running style to fit the shape of the race. Goldikova could do this, so could Zenyatta (unless Mike Smith stopped her).October 8, 2013 at 07:16 #454090Yes true Miss Woodford, I think it has to be approached like when AOB had the Melb Cup debacle, he was questioned about his tactics. AOB fumed about it, how dare they question me, guess what mate, pacemakers are illegal in Australia. If he was a local he would have been charged with the little used charge of incompetence, but his high profile saved him. The main issue is horses shifting ground to give the stablemate the run and hopefully impede the dangers in some cases, besides the sometimes suicidal pace.Makybe Diva won a group 2 over 7f, a Cox Plate over 10f in between her 3 Melb Cups. She was freshened up to sprint, to my mind the use of pacemakers show a lack of tactical nous. Also maybe an inability in some cases not all to alter a horses training pattern to allow them to show a bit more pace or put a little more sprint into them
October 8, 2013 at 07:40 #454092I was just looking at Dave Edwards "Top Speed" going allowance for Longchamp Sunday and he had it at
-0.10s/f
(good).
The best Female performance on the day according to his speed figures was:
1.20 2yo Indonesienne106
3.15 3yo Treve
96
4.40 5yo Moonlight Cloud
93
So there you have it the best female performance on the day was the 2yo filly
Indonesienne
, sorry I don’t think so

I suppose that rules Frankel out as being a truly great racehorse then as Bullet Train done the work for him?
Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 8, 2013 at 10:45 #454106I am a fully paid up member of the pacemakers’ club.
The greatest flat race ever had a top class field – and two pacemakers … for one horse ( Bustino ) who just got touched off by the younger Derby and Irish Derby winner, Grundy.
Pacemakers ensure a proper test – no dawdling and no jiggery pokery.
I also agree with Miss Woodford. If a horse is good enough ( and fast enough ), it will win the race anyway. Tactics, however, are an essential part of all racing ; be that racing equine, human or mechanical.
Treve is the best middle distance horse on the planet – bar none ! She would have won nine out of the past ten Arcs – in my opinion, with pacemakers or no pacemakers.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
October 8, 2013 at 12:42 #454116We need a definition of "middle distance". Anything from a mile and two to a mile and a half?

Nah, you’re wrong there H.
10 out of 10 (imo).
If you’re thinking Sea The Stars Arc was better… I agree the Irish horse was probably better than Treve. But he only beat Youmzain by the same distance as Zarkava. His best form performances were at Leopardstown and Sandown, below form in winning at Longchamp.Value Is EverythingOctober 8, 2013 at 13:40 #454126"His best form performances were at Leopardstown and Sandown, below form in winning at Longchamp. Please not this again.
October 8, 2013 at 14:19 #454130A visually stunning performance from Treve and she was travelling like a winner from quite a long way out as far as I was concerned. The best female of all time? I think it’s too early to say and I have to disagree with many about the strength of this year’s field. Mick Fitzgerald declared that the form was "Rack Salad" but I questioned beforehand how good Ruler Of The World, Leading Light, Al Kazeem and Flintshire really were and none of them did anything to make me change my view. This year’s Epsom Derby was given a lukewarm rating by the handicapper and The St Leger has never been a pointer to the Arc. Al Kazeem has had some tough wins this year, was probably lucky to bump into a sick The Fugue and then showed his limitations thereafter. It was asking a hell of a lot to have such a busy campaign at 10f and then step up in the Arc against rivals who were a lot fresher. As far as Flintshire goes, I must be missing something. A Grand Prix de Paris win, with a very disappointing Battle Of Marengo as second favourite, and the touted but now exposed as moderate, Ocovango in opposition was his best form and it was sheer hype and connections that had punters purring about his prospects. He’s a horse with much to prove still.
Getting to the race itself, Intello ran much better than I had expected but that has to be tempered a little by how many of the field who were disappointing on the day. Orfevre was supposed to be facing a much stronger field but still saw most of these "Rack Salad" horses off readily enough. Perhaps I am being hard on Leading Light but he looked devoid of pace and many a time jockeys get flak when the fact is that the horse can’t take them where they want to be and the Leger winner was a big lay for me, owing his position to being from a stable who had two 50/1 crocks in the race right up until the 11th hour.
Treve is an exciting horse for next year if holding her form and I’d rather wait to see how those who were behind her perform next year before agreeing that:-
"That’s why we’re Salad, Salad as a Rack"
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

October 8, 2013 at 16:49 #454142Yes, he has an Irish accent. Mind you, he is Irish.
