Anyone else notice that Meezaan (2.10 Newb) was forecast to go off at 25-1 in the Racing Post this morning – he won quite easily at 5s after opening at more or less that price. A bit strange .
April 17, 2010 at 08:35 #290753Albrookes, I suspect the answer is that those TRF’ers who were on are either very shy or discreet about their successes (TAPK and Fist excepted) or choose to avoid being accused of after-timing.
Were the forecast odds mistaken or was it generally available at that price in the morning?
KApril 17, 2010 at 08:49 #290758I am afraid I don’t know Ken. The RP’s spotlight comment was pretty encouraging for the horse, and it opened well fancied so are we to assume it was a rare typo?…wish I’d have been on at 25s if there was any though!

In bookmaking patois Meezaan would be termed a ‘corner horse’
A horse opening in the live market at much shorter odds than that forecast and/or was traded at in the morning, and not drifting from those seemingly woefully short odds nor backed heavily enough to warrant a cut
One the bookmakers ‘don’t want’ hidden in mid-market
Meezaan is just the sort of lightly raced unexposed horse that tends to be ‘cornered’. Additionally it was his seasonal debut and the race was an early-season 3yo handicap. Trappy stuff and in such circumstances such horses are well worth consideration
April 18, 2010 at 20:51 #291075Think the horse was fancied aswell as it was given out by a tipping service I know.
It probably happens quite regular and is probably something to keep an eye on when a price is so different.
There’s one running tomorrow at my local track (Ponte) that will start much shorter than the forecast price of the Sportinglife, dont know what it will be in the racing post but it’s down as an 8/1 shot in the sportinglife and if my sources are correct about this one it could go off 2/1 or shorter…and will win!
