“I believe that the connections of the horse receive all the prize money in the event of a walk over. Approx 17 grand in this case.”

I’d be interested to learn the provenance of this belief.

The Racing Post stats page for Pentland Hills gives the gelding’s NH winnings & earnings for 2022/2023 as £8,714.

I’ve just had a look at the BHA website.

Under code 12, the Stakes & Prize Money Code, section 17 states:

“If a Race has fewer declared runners at the ‘Off’ than the number of placings with prizes, the surplus prizes shall not be paid.”

    In addition, section 18 states:

“After a Race is declared ‘Off’, any money or prize which is surplus due to fewer finishers than placing(s) shall be distributed to the finishers equally.“

    Gladiateur,

Thanks for that. It’s a detail I’d wondered about from time to time.
