Another double post?Think I’ll stick a 100 pound note in the next post and see if it doubles that
January 21, 2012 at 23:44 #387744Good on the Somersby backers. The pieces looked like they helped create a positive vibe over all the fences, especially on landing when he was catching his stride. It’s good when we get a few winners on the forum, because it means the bookies haven’t robbed all of us. As far as banter and people exchanging tough words with each other on here, what do you expect ?…the money is down and people have opinions….i’d be more worried if people didn’t fight. People need to stop saying ‘why were you banned’ and all that lame garabage. Any fights on here are opinionated and creative, and i applaud that(just the way i see it). It was good to see Somersby get that g1, and Hen most definitely derserved it. I will retire to my own thread now before i get kicked.
January 21, 2012 at 23:49 #387745Interesting three-card trick that race.
I was slightly disappointed with Al Ferof, never looked like winning. Sure, he jumped OK but that form is not strong IMHO. I can’t see Finian’s winning the Champion or Sommersby winning another Grade 1 over any distance.
I spose he’ll prefer Chelters but I’m not sure if I’d back Al for the Arkle. Needs some cogitation.
Well done if you backed that perennial bridesmaid!

January 22, 2012 at 04:42 #387758Don’t know about that.
Take Ruby light out and the Ryanair might not be that hot.
PN needs help if he can’t see Al Ferof is way too slow for the Arkle but would be a near certainty of the Jewson if Bog Warrior doesn’t cross the Irish sea. Peddlers, Grand Crus and Cue Card surround him in the betting which is a joke as none of them will run.
Running him against speedsters again and possibly sickening him is the last thing the horse needs IMO. He’d need to be awfully awfully lucky to win the Arkle but in the Jewson he’d be able to do things more in his own time which would boost his confidence no end. He had quite a tough time of it at Sandown he’s been pushed and shoved for nearly half the race yesterday and I doubt if he’s enjoying life as much as he should be at this stage.
January 22, 2012 at 05:28 #387761Fist, I absolutely agree that Al Ferof would have a very comfortable time of it in the Jewson, but I really don’t see any reason to run him in anything but the Arkle.
Despite the time being actually extremely quick in comparison to the other races on the card, I’m really not sure they went that quickly and Ruby’s priority seemed to be making sure Al Ferof got a good view of the fences, a good run around and gained some experience. He was widest of all the whole way round and I count only 3 strikes of the whip, although about 100 yards of the final furlong was out of sight. Slightly eased in the last 50 yards as well. Also had 1 fence less to jump than normal which also would’ve inconvenienced.
His jumping wasn’t perfect but he never looked like falling and jumped the majority well, and clearly it was thought he had a decent chance regardless of only wanting the experience as he went off 5/2 despite being 4/1 in the morning. Maybe he wouldn’t have won if they’d gone a decent gallop all the way round, but he certainly would’ve been closer.
And being beaten 5 lengths by Somersby, what’s wrong with that? This is a horse who finished 2nd to Sizing Europe in an Arkle and almost beat Master Minded in this race last year. It’s a good performance by any horse, let alone a horse having only his 3rd start over fences.
7 weeks since his last run and I doubt he will have done that much at home. He’ll have a week or two off and then preparations will begin.
Anyway, we’ll never see Sprinter Sacre and Al Ferof against each other after the Arkle, so at least the losing camp will have something to be glad about
January 22, 2012 at 19:38 #387839Nothing wrong with the run as such but as a trial for what? is the question.
I can’t be having any of this Paul Nichols jibbar jabber about Ruby supposedly saying you can’t buy experience like that. Those words were ready and waiting for the media should the horse be beaten. I reckon he rehearses his lines in front of the mirror like all good actors.
He doesn’t travel well enough to even bother Sprinter Sacre or Peddlers Cross and there was no sign on Saturday of the power packed finish his reputation is built round. Without which he has no weapons in his armour to compensate for lost ground.
He’s in double trouble time to lay him off "Z" and stick the profit on Sprinter Sacre.
As far leaving something to work on is concerned he’d be as fit as a flea on Saturday as was master Minded when he won by 16 length before winning the QMCC. Plenty time to bring him to his peak then let him down to start again. Festival is almost 2 months away. PN’s run Cheltenham horses later than this that have won and went on to win at Cheltenham.
I reckon he’ll end up much in the same class as the horse who beat him on Saturday and anything more is just wishful thinking on PN’s part.
Best thing is we could debate this for 8 weeks and one of them doesn’t run………..We could end up looking very silly
January 22, 2012 at 20:18 #387845Overjoyed with that! Yes, I would be more than happy to do that

p.s. Although obviously we’re allowed to talk after the Game Spirit and Peddler’s Cross’ trial too!
January 22, 2012 at 22:28 #387873Well done to the Henrietta Knight stable. Thought Finian’s was home for all money all up until jumping the last fence. Thought the only threat was Somersby, and didn’t act on those instincts. Sigh.

Only if Sprinter Sacre puts up another outstanding performance if the GS . If something beats him fair and square I’m not playing
January 23, 2012 at 04:45 #387912Lol something? What on earth is going to turn up? We’ll struggle to get 8 runners in the Queen Mum as it is. Finian’s Rainbow, Gauvain, Oiseau De Nuit and Wishfull Thinking just ran, the 2 favs are trained in Ireland and the rest are crap. I suppose Hold Fast could turn up but let’s face it, a handicapper is not going to get close to Sprinter Sacre around a flat track. He’ll win by 20 lengths.
January 23, 2012 at 22:57 #388020Sprinter Sacre has taken a walk in the market 6/1 with Blue Square and 888 on the betting exchange.
Hope is the cleaning ladies messing about with the computers againJanuary 24, 2012 at 00:09 #388023Yeah total bollock up, although I must admit you got me excited for a second!
January 24, 2012 at 00:15 #388024Grands Crus 4/1, Bob’s Worth 6/1, Last Instalment 14/1. BlueSq’s systems are falling apart!
January 24, 2012 at 07:44 #388031Someone probably got laid 100 quid on a 3/1 shot by mistake and their system not being set up to handle such a big bet went all wonky
