Bit of fun, I hope.
What horses do we reckon will appears in the Veterans Final in three years time?
Pete The Feat, obv, but apart from that, who durable eight or nine year old will be around at a good enough mark to be a prime mover in that sphere?
I’ll start with Relentless Dreamer and Cogry.

Was thinking that myself. MC in the betting ring enthusiastically telling us the big gamble was on SFP backed from 10/1 this morning into 5/2 Fav

January 7, 2019 at 15:28 #1391706Not sure about 2022 but the 2023 edition will be won by Elegant Escape, who will be using the race as a prep for his record-equalling fifth Gold Cup.
January 7, 2019 at 16:54 #1391719So the Racecard will look something like this :-
Rock The Kasbah 12 – The horse that gave recently retired Richard Johnson his first Grand National winner carries top weight.
Definitly Red 13 – Creeping down the weights but still a force to be reckoned with. Still a good, accurate jumper should see him to good effect at Sandown.
Blaklion 13 – Ultra consistent so still fairly high in the weights. Nigel Twiston-Davies says he will go for a sixth National later this season insisting he will stay the distance this year despite always seeming to run out of gas in the last two furlongs.
Yala Enki 12 – Has been out of form recently and is tumbling down the weights. Venetia Williams has just hit form over the Christmas period. Watch betting

Black Corton 11 – Ridden by champion-elect jockey Bryony Frost who leads the Championship in the first season since Richard Johnson retired.
Singlefarmpayment (BF) 12 – Has not won since December 2016 despite 23 placed efforts in that time. Ultra-consistent but very hard to win with.
Vieux Lion Rouge 13 – Ran his 12th race over the Grand National fences in the Becher Chase last time out finishing a creditable 4th.
The Young Master 13 – Potential non-runner due to the soft ground after the recent monsoon. But the barmy 20C in the last week due to rapid global warming is drying the ground nicely.
Pete The Feat 18 – A recent win over C&D at the age of 17 has convinced Charlie Longsdon to delay his retirement. Running off a mark of 118 gives him a fair shout despite his advancing years. 17 year old claimer Rocco Dettori (son of Frankie) takes the ride meaning for the first time ever the horse is older than his jockey.
Please feel free to add others.
January 7, 2019 at 20:25 #1391741Step Back from the front by a good 15l
January 7, 2019 at 21:30 #1391747Cloudy Dream- coming second or third having been passed on the run in.
January 8, 2019 at 12:33 #1391802Haha, superb work homersimpson, well in the spiritofthegame.
They’ll surely retire the class horses like Definitly Red and Blaklion by then.
January 8, 2019 at 17:20 #1391825If the qualifiers are still 0-150s, it will be a masterful bit of placing by Colin Tizzard to get a four time Gold Cup winner into the race!
I quite like the look of De Dollar Man. Will have less miles on the clock than most of his rivals, has a touch of class, will be nicely weighted and represents a yard that knows how to win the race.

It’s Elegant Escape we’re talking about here. He can do whatever he wants; the rules don’t apply.
