Europeans reaping the rewards of vaccine politics. False claims by Macron and German press / leaders has led to vaccines laying unused in stores as Europeans refuse the Oxford jab. Euro citizens will die because of their leaders stupid words.
Looks as though many areas of the EU will be a no go area for UK tourists a lot longer than other parts of the world.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 27, 2021 at 01:31 #1525549The entire EU may well be a no go area for UK tourists if that’s what they decide. Internal EU travel will be first on the agenda ahead of that of third countries.
I do find it amusing how the rabidly anti-EU press suddenly gets concerned when it turn out that Brits don’t have the same rights to go there that they used to.
February 27, 2021 at 10:47 #1525585Sod principle – I saved nearly £20 with the Clubcard discounts at Tesco last week

You saved £20 off their inflated non-club card prices, Paul.
I’d bet you could have got a similar trolley full of goodies cheaper from Asda, Aldi or Lidl
February 27, 2021 at 14:28 #1525639But I wouldn’t normally be seen dead in ASDA, Aldi or Lidl, I think I venture to ASDA once a year to see if it’s improved (it never does) and the local Lidl is like being on holiday i.e. I tend to be the only English speaker there – Tesco is just about bearable but only because they stock items that Waitrose and M&S don’t stock
February 27, 2021 at 19:18 #1525703What on Earth has that got to do with anything? Do you like to have a chat with all of the other customers as you go around? People are free to speak whichever language they please. As long as the store staff speak English then what’s the issue?
February 27, 2021 at 20:02 #1525708I think that’s the point Paul is making, Richard. When the staff’s first language is not English it can be difficult. Personally, think it is only natural for people of any race / nationality / language / dialect to go where they’re best understood and where others can understand them. Even when people speak exceptional English there are certain accents my (less than perfect) hearing can’t understand.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 27, 2021 at 21:30 #1525716I hadn’t set foot in a supermarket for years until these lockdowns, having made use of their home delivery services soon after they were introduced. Firstly with Tesco, then with Ocado when they were tied to Waitrose, and after they moved over to M&S, with Waitrose itself
However as home deliveries to the young, fit and healthy were all but impossible during that first lockdown and difficult since with them, quite rightly, prioritising the old and vulnerable I’ve been forced to enter their emporia once again
The huge choice of tucker is, I suppose, welcome but I just find it all overwhelming: list written, aisles navigated as quickly as possible and out into the fresh air to combat an incipient panic attack
I’m fortunate enough to live near to several independent grocers, bakers and butchers who’ve doggedly remained open throughout and have used them a lot: business has boomed they tell me
I’ve been in a Lidl, twice I think, but never an Aldi
February 28, 2021 at 10:30 #1525793Richard – what a presumptive response! Where did I make any mention of conversation? I go out of my way to avoid any conversation with other customers and staff, that’s the joy of self-scan, no inane conversations with checkout staff.
Drone – the trouble with online shopping for food is they take no care in selecting the fresh food, they grab the first item they can without checking dates. I’ve had to use online a couple of times during lockdown and it was a disaster. For example we buy 4 pint bottles of milk, which lasts us a week. Last time I ordered online the “use by” date on the milk was the next day and almost all the use by dates on the fresh food were in the next two to three days – not much use when shopping for a week. I’ll be glad when restrictions end and I can return to doing my food shopping every day.
February 28, 2021 at 10:45 #1525795We may have had this conversation before but, being Basingstoke’s (Chavingstoke’s) biggest snob – a kind of male Hyacinth Bouquet (Bucket) if you like – I only shop at Waitrose.
I ought to gravitate towards M&S Food Hall too, but tbh I have always found it a bit overrated.
I would go to Lidl more – as they have various continental delicacies you just can’t get elsewhere – but I can’t be doing with those infernal check-out queues.

You are allowed out to go shopping
I had the same problem as you ie dates and even quality (Apples were bruised to the core)
A couple times I have hit Tesco’s after 10pm not even a handful of people in there..Blackbeard to conquer the World
February 28, 2021 at 11:36 #1525807Paul..I used to think like you about the sell by dates on the online shopping at Tesco and until lockdown preferred to do my own.
Now I do a regular Click and Collect and pleased to report that Tesco now promise your food will be picked to within 4 days of sell by date and if not they state on your receipt that the sell by date is not as long as was promised giving you the chance to hand it back.
But before I go giving Tesco too many pats on the back I would add that they have now taken all sell by dates off their fresh vegetables especially noticeable in the potatoes which begin to reproduce in your fridge if left longer than 5 days.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 28, 2021 at 11:37 #1525808That doesn’t surprise me; infact I’d be surprised if their packers aren’t instructed to purposely select items nearing their ‘Use By’ or ‘Best Before’ date for home delivery as the more careful in-store shoppers are likely to shun them
All my fresh veg and fruit, other than oranges and bananas, are grown on my allotment; and other perishables like eggs, milk, bread and occasional dead animal bought in person from local shops for local people
Supermarkets are generally used for stocking up on long-to-infinite life items: tins, cereals, squash, bog rolls etc

July 19, 2021 at 22:45 #1551368Night clubs?
Lap dancing??!!
What’s wrong with spending Friday/Saturday night at home having a nice coffee and a quality biscuit – maybe two – while studying the 48-hour declarations?
I have had both jabs, I never go out, and vaccine passports sound a jolly good idea to me!
