Good morning folks,
I live around about 10 miles from the track, and thought it might be helpful to put up what the weather here has been like.
I see they are already calling it good/gd soft in places, I believe that will only get softer as it has been raining steadily here for a few hours now. There were some really sharp showers last night but were very localised, so I could not say for certain if the course caught one or not.
Local weather forecasts give heavy showers throughout the day. Will post again around 1pm and let you all know what the morning has been like.

Great username by the way.

July 7, 2009 at 16:06 #238312Weather update.
It finally stopped raining here just after 9am and was then grey for much of the morning. Delighted to say the sun came out about an hour ago and it now resembles a bit more like summer. Loads of non-runners already and I’d expect more later.
For what its worth, I rather like Candle in the last despite most of the George horses running rather below form. The best of his flat form came with cut, which he hasn’t yet encountered over hurdles. Looks a bit of a slow learner but has progressed with each run. Good luck whatever you back.
July 7, 2009 at 17:55 #238330No sooner do I open my mouth than the mother of all storms hits the area. It’s throwing it down again!
July 7, 2009 at 20:12 #238351If the thunderstorm was anything like the one we had in Derby a while ago, I wouldn’t like to be on a racetrack; I have never heard thunder like it..thought it was the end of the world!
July 7, 2009 at 21:18 #238357Moehat, I got caught in the middle of that, never seen Derby in such a mess so quickly, St Peters St was a lake, the bottom of Abbey/Macklin was almost impassable, all the drains blocked!
They are saying any more rain puts the meeting in doubt now, its still raining here in Hilton and if this keeps up you wouls not be hopeful they will get through the card. Still, they’ll all be in the bars by then….
July 7, 2009 at 21:30 #238361Problem is with the mud crossings on the track as opposed to the actual ground. Clerk of the course sounded hopeful only if the rain stopped but it’s still looking bleak and raining here in Derby.
Those thunderstorms earlier scared the hell out of me whilst I was at work, we were all hoping for a power cut and the afternoon off!
July 7, 2009 at 22:53 #238373It’s off.
July 7, 2009 at 23:34 #238377Debacle – abandonned after the ambulance got stuck, they dug up the course, delayed the racing by an hour and Micky Fitz was "flabberghasted". Shouldn’t be allowed to happen.
July 8, 2009 at 02:20 #238393Not the end of the world, No horses have been injured or worse, Racegoers get their money back.
Just an unfortunate incident and no one could have seen this happening this morning.
