    Unibet are sponsoring the Champion Hurdle but I really don’t think they should be. Their book of odds for the race is nothing short of a disgrace and ITV should be drawing attention to the rip off prices they are offering on some of the prominent entries.

    When you consider the prices being offered on the same horses by rival firms, there is just no way anyone other than a complete idiot could want to back with Unibet and it’s a terrible advert for the Racing Industry to see a firm with such rip-off prices sponsoring one of the biggest races of the season. Some of the legendary bookies from the past will be revolving in their graves.

    Unibet are offering a bit better on Buveur D’air but he is still 4/6 with them. They are more than covering their anuses with the odds on the following runners.

    Runner=======Unibet Odds============Best Price Available Elsewhere

    Faugheen=================3/1============================8/1
    Yorkhill=================5/1===========================16/1
    Melon====================7/1===========================20/1
    Min======================8/1===========================25/1
    Apples Jade=============12/1===========================25/1
    Defi Du Seuil===========12/1===========================40/1

    With Buveur D’air at 4/6, just these 7 runners form a book of 138% and they quote numerous other horses as well.

    Just the six runners above on Unibet prices versus the best available would show you make 87 pts worse value combined versus the best available.

    That is a disgrace for a firm sponsoring the Champion Hurdle. Utter charlatan odds and they would surely not take a penny at their odds for those horses at a racecourse.

    Pathetic and they don’t deserve to have any customers based on this rubbish bookmaking. Feeble Crap.

    Shop around!

    Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

    I had an email from Stan James in the week, I deleted it but it went along the lines of they are joining forces with Unibet and described unibet as ‘pioneering’.
    Seems unibet are pioneering in the art of copying Stan and James in offering the worse prices on the uni-web.

    Unibet/Stan don’t have any full-time racing compilers nowadays, they contract it all to third parties and deploy mid-market robots for the day to day stuff.

    They’ve priced their NRMB Cheltenham markets in the least work-intensive way possible – they’re massively under all the doubtful/vaguely possible runners so they won’t get filled in if/when one of those horses is announced as a runner. Lazy stuff and looks terrible for them on Oddschecker.

    I agree with you Steve. It makes no sense for them to spend so much on race sponsorship when all indications suggest Unibet have no interest in racing at all.

    Most of those prices have changed now, doubling from when Steve saw them. Others may well follow.

    Faugheen now 6/1, Yorkhill 10/1, Melon 16/1, Defi Du 25/1. Which are respectable NRNB odds compared to others.

    Suspect whoever compiles their markets these days wasn’t available to update prices after the weekend’s events until this morning. So in the meantime temporarily slashed prices of doubtful runners in order to make sure of not making a rick/not wanting to lay them until their odds compilers have a look.

    Disappointing they had poor odds earlier, but sadly it’s something that happens occasionally when bookmakers don’t have their own compilers.

    @nwalton – I read about your dispute in another thread, glad to read that you got it sorted. Surely £177 over the last 7 years should carry some hefty value through inflation?! :good:

    I don’t know what the hell is going on but at 7.30pm I checked the Champion Hurdle odds and Unibet were/are quoting the original, shall we say “ess aitch one tea” odds. Faugheen back at 3/1 etc etc

    Never mind Oddsmaking For Dummies this seems to be Dummies For Oddsmaking

    ? :unsure:
